Chapter 11 - Love Letter
It’s was hard to fought the grand room, that Moon stood in. The chandeliers were ablaze with candles which shone off the stunning golden colour of the mirrors and silvery decorations perfectly angled to reflect the light within the room. The grand staircase that she stood on, descended down into the room giving the person a spectacular view of the hall. There were masses of people within the room, the new fashion being dark colours, it seemed to emphasis the gold as a richer colour then it already was. The band at one end of the room sat in equally dark outfits on a golden platform with the dark wood of their instruments making them look incredibly perfect in the room. You couldn’t fought the way the owners had decorated the hall for the evening, especially from the vintage point that Moon was standing from. 'Yet, I hate every inch of it; at least we get to wear masks.' She stared at her feeble looking mask in her hand; Lisa had chosen Moon to wear a crimson red dress which fit snugly around her hips, with a simple matching mask to cover her upper half of her face. 'Just like work. Well it is work.'
A servant stood at the top of the stairs waiting patiently for people to overcome their awe of the room. It lasted a minute longer for Moon or her father.
“Welcome, Sir Murri, Lady Murri” The servant bowed to them while balancing a tray in his hand which still amazed Moon, as the man stooped incredibly low. “Will you need any refreshments tonight?”
“A good case of wine,” Moon muttered but loud enough for Rodger to glance at her, with an amused smile on his lips.
“Indeed you may have that but at home,” Turning back to the servant who stood emotionless as though he had not heard anything, “Two mild wines will be sufficient, one for myself and my daughter.” He ignored Moon’s accusing look, “Also ensure every glass of wine that passes her lips is requested by me first, or a companion of hers.”
“Is that all Sir?” The servant asked as he poured two glasses of wine on the tray.
“That’s all,” Rodger thanked him.
“Please follow me.” The servant started to descend the stairs allowing them to follow. Once they reached the bottom he offered them the glasses and disappeared up the stairs again.
Moon sipped the wine liking the flowery taste, it was familar until she realised that it was the same wine that night with Victor. She almost shuddered this was getting ridiculous now, 'Remember what you have to do tonight.' “You must realise old man that you will be interrupted frequently.”
“Then don’t drink too fast so I don’t get annoyed and decline all drinks,” He retorted back; Moon swore with extremely colourful language under her breath while sipping again. “There seems to be a lovely crowd of people tonight, Victor is over there,” 'Surprise, surprise.' “Maybe you should talk to him, or Master Granefield, he seems pleasant enough.” Moon swore once again on his grave, “It would be better to keep that language to yourself tonight.”
Moon tilted her head towards him, “I am, you just over heard.” She had already known who was attending the ball, the list of people attending was ‘conveniently’ misplaced by Rodger Murri. It didn't take a Pandorian to guess who he wanted her to meet. Her father disappeared, noticing Louise Carbe – not that it was that hard considering the girl had an extremely elaborate mask on - wondering towards her. Moon ‘suddenly’ found Robert Granefield a more attractive conversationalist. “Master Granefield.”
The dark haired teen looked her way, his eyes lighting up at the sight of Moon. Why did it seem like everyone knew something she didn't? He was neither handsome nor ugly but he had an overly large nose that seemed to mismatch the rest of his face. The mask seemed to enhance this, by hidding the better part of his face and elaborating his nose.
