Chapter 13 - Bartey Drunkey

Bart had come and gone over a week ago, it seemed awfully quiet in the house. His personality always made such an impression into any home that he entered, the feel lasted for days after he had gone. No matter how brief, Bart always left a line of happily sad people, they were happy he had come but sorry he had gone. It didn't help that he was so charming people adored him so much.

After Bart had bathed he had left as Moon had expected but not to Lady Charming. She had remained in blissful ignorance until he had arrived home, completely intoxicated, laughing merrily. Hearing his laughter Moon had left her seat in the drawing opening the door to Bart leaning on Victor. She had stood stock still, watching Victor laugh at something Bart said. Neither of them noticed her as she stood there watching them.

Bart swayed falling on his behind sending him into a fit of deep laughter.

"Bartey drunkey?" Victor chanted backed away into Moon, gasping for surprise he swerved on his feet, standing face to face with Victor. His gaze didn't deter from hers.

"Lemy! Get me to bed," Victor slurred as the driver stepped into the house. Moon heard the driver grunt loudly causing Victor to turn away from her and back to Bart.

Moon closed the door; she felt a stab of betrayal run cold through her veins. How could Bart do that to her, he knew what happened and he had run off to Victor on his only night in town.

Moon sat, ideally studying the seat in front of her, she almost jumped as Victor appeared in her line of vision. Some of his hair strayed from his ponytail; his shirt was unbuttoned halfway down revealing his dark blonde chest hair. Moon's stomach had flipped when she saw him, her heart had hammered against her chest and she was sure he noticed even though he was only a little less drunk than Bart. Victor's gaze had wondered onto hers and he had smiled sitting across from her.

‘Then what happened?’ Moon's eyes strayed onto the chair he had sat on that night. She could feel her eyes throb a little at the memory.

"How are you, Moon?" His gaze had run down her body but it wasn't the way he used to, more in a boyish lustful way. She was dressed in barely anything more than a night dress, if the light hit it right it would show a silhouette of her body.

"Fine..." Her tone was wry.

He cut her off before she could say anything more, "And Luke Lindgreen?" He seemed genuinely curious, the way he had used a light tone concerned Moon; even now it worried her.

"Well, I suppose," She muttered adverting her gaze from his there was a long pause before she spoke again. "We're not engaged." Moon had mentally slapped herself at the outburst, she couldn't help it.

"And?" Victor asked as if it didn't bother him, from what Moon had heard he had been drinking heavily. She looked up at him, ‘was he drunk or just didn't care anymore?’ "Moon, whatever we had I understand why we ended it, it was going to happen anyway. We had fun but you were right I was infatuated by you and I'm over it." He smiled, relaxing back in his chair. "However I'd like to still be friends, maybe not too close, we don't want people talking again."
