Chapter 6: The Competition

I've had an amazing afternoon with April and Rose. The park was fun despite my small little episode. But the walk home and our small meal were the best. Both were filled with smiles and laughter. But the hard part of the evening is yet to come.

In about two hours I will be on a stage singing in front of so many people. April will be there to watch also. This could very well be the start of a new beginning. The big break I need for my family. I'm not sure what tonight's outcome is going to be but, I'm sure as hell scared.

Right now though I can't help but smile. Who couldn't with the scene in front of me?

April is sitting in the floor with Rose and playing along with anything Rose suggests. Currently they are playing with two of Rose's stuff toys. Every time April does anything, Rose can't seem to hold in laughter.

The others love my sister but never take the time to do anything like this. Heck, I don't even usually do that. I tell you the more April's around the more I believe she's the best person on earth.

"Sissy, come play with us." Rose says smiling at me as April chuckles softly.

"I think I'll stay over here. You guys look like you're having fun." I say waving her off.

"Come on Kacey, don't be a meanie." April says, turning her big blue eyes to me.

"Please sissy."

The two then both start to pout at me. I try to ignore it but between my sister and April, I can't say no.

"Fine." I say, throwing my legs off the couch before standing up completely.

I walk over to them and plop down on the floor beside April. They both smile at me smugly, knowing they have won.

"Okay, I'm here. What do you want me to do?" I ask.

"Catch me!" Rose screams and takes off.

"You're on midget!" I shout, running after her.

We spend several minutes scrambling around the house chasing each other. Eventually I catch her an tickle her sides as she laughs and screams joyfully.

"April! Save me!" Rose shouts out to a giggling April.

"Don't worry, I'll save you."

April bounces over to us before crossing her arms and putting on a fake stern face. I stop tickling Rose but pull her to me as we both look at April.

"Hand over the girl you hooligan." April demands.

"You'll never get her back." I say playing along.

"Hand her over and no harm will come to you."

"Never."

"Fine you leave me no choice. I'll have to feed you to the lions." she says sternly.

"No. Anything but that. Here you can have her." I say setting Rose down and starring at Aprils playful smile.

Yep currently my nerves have been pushed to the side.

"This is the place?"

It's now dark and April and I are parked in the parking lot for Beats Restaurant. My mother got home earlier so Rose is with her. My mom knows what I'm doing to night and made sure to whisper me a quick good luck. But unlike earlier my heart feels like it's going to jump out of my chest. There is less then half an hour before its scheduled to be my turn.
