I ran through the halls of The Blue Mountains. Bumping into Dwarves along the way. Cursing in Khûzdul when some of them fell to the ground. I was late for work... AGAIN..... My mother got older and I wanted to take over her work. My mother was a great seamstress so she would make clothes for the royal family and if I would help Dís, my mother could concentrate on the clothes. My thoughts were interrupted by a firm figure and I fell to the ground, but so did the figure.

I looked up and met the eyes of a face I knew all too well. Thorin. He was looking at me with his beautiful blue eyes. His eyes were so deep I always drown in them. Whenever he looked at me I saw this look in his eyes I couldn't quite explain. Then I realised he was talking to me: " Are you alright?" I nodded. He stood up and offered his hand to me. I took it and he helped me get up. "Are you done with your duties?" he asked me confused, because normally I would still be helping Dís. I gasped and with a short "right" and "goodbye" I ran off to my destination leaving him alone.

I knocked on the door of Dís' room. I heard her say "yes" and I entered. She was brushing her hair. I bowed and stared at the ground. I was so embarrassed. I had been late the past three days. She simply looked at me. "I'm sorry My Lady." I said softly. I dared to somewhat look at her face. She was smiling at me. "It's alright. I know it has been a little difficult at home." I smiled back at her. I was happy she understood why I was late. I straightened my back and with a smile on my face I asked her if she needed something. "I would like some breakfast and then maybe a nice hot bath." She said. "But of course My Lady." I bowed and left the room again.

I walked to the kitchen to fetch breakfast for the princess. When I entered all the faces turned to me. They looked at me as if they were sorry. Then the cook stood in front of me with her fists at her side. She looked at me with an angry stare."Uhm... I-I came t-to uhm... ge-get breakfast for the pr-princess." I said with a shaking voice. The cook was a big somewhat fat woman and very scary. "Oh really! But maybe you could first explain why you PUSHED me to the GROUND!" she yelled back at me. For Durins sake! How could I be so stupid to not notice that I pushed her earlier! "Look I am very sorry. Truly I am! I was late and I didn't wanted to lose my job!" the cook picked up a plate from a table and gave it to me.

"Here. But next time you won't be this lucky." I thanked her and walked out of the kitchen. I knocked on Dis' door again and entered the room. "Here you go My Lady!" I passed her the plate of food. "Thank you! It looks delicious!" she happily started to eat her breakfast. She must have been hungry I thought. I remembered that she wanted a bath. "Shall I get your bath ready then?" she looked at me "Yes please, that would be lovely." And she started to eat again. I turned around and walked to her personal bathroom.

I filled her bath with hot water, but not too hot. That's how she likes it. And of course I couldn't forget her lavender oil and rose petals. When I was done she walked in "Are you done Dakota?" I dried my hands and answered, "Yes My Lady your bath is ready. If you need anything just call me." She looked at me "Thank you Dakota that'll be all." I turned around and walked out of the bathroom closing the door behind me. Okay what to do now... right cleaning up. I started cleaning up the room because Dís likes a clean room. I wasn't that much work because it already was quite clean.

After 15 minutes I was done cleaning much to my dislike. What was I gonna do now? Then I heard a knock on the door. I opened it and I was face to face with Fili and Kili. They were the sons of Dís and with that, also the nephews of Thorin. I like the boys. They were always down for fun. They often pulled pranks on anyone who wasn't paying attention. I was their number one victim. "Yes boys? What do you need?" they had a mischievous look on their faces. I grew suspicious "What? Did you guys do something stupid?" Kili chuckled. Fili began to talk with a smirk on his face "Well, the thing is Thorin is leaving for a meeting with our kin in two days."

A meeting? Why didn't he tell me? Maybe he thinks I am not important enough. Or he doesn't trust me... could that really be it? No... we had been friends since the beginning of our lives. I shook the thought off me when Kili continued "So we thought it might be a good idea to let you assist us when we're dining." I was confused "Why me? What is so special about me that someone else does not have?" they looked at me as if I just said something terribly stupid. "Isn't that obvious?" Fili asked.

"Dakota you are his best friend." Kili added. But they looked at me as if they knew something I didn't. "Still you didn't answer their question." I heard a voice say behind me. I almost jumped out of my skin. I turned around "My Lady! You startled me!" I said with a sigh. She chuckled. "Will you be there tonight? The boys are right. I think he'd love it and maybe tomorrow you could dine with him." I was surprised by Dís' invitation. "If that is what you wish Milady than I shall do it." Behind me I heard the brothers give each other a high five. "You two! Don't you guys have something to do? Training perhaps?" Dis asked her sons.

"Of course Ma!" they said in unison. They greeted their mother and smiled at me "We will see you tonight Dakota!" Kili said. "And don't forget to wear your best dress for our uncle!" Fili managed to say before their mother closed the door. She sighed, "I'm sorry Dakota." I smiled at her. She's always so caring and polite "It's alright Milady. I have gotten used to their pranks. Besides people told me things that are worse, so they don't hurt me." She nodded. "Do you need anything else Milady?" I asked. "No. I'm fine." I nodded."Would you mind if I check up on my mother?" "No of course not! Tell her I said"hi" will you?" I bowed "I shall Milady." I walked out the room and started walking through the corridors of the castle. I was on my way home.
