Band Of Brothers

Shadow galloped ahead of Tris and Zane. The two continued to walk watching Shadow. He looked around. It was nothing but open field. He looked back at them. The two stopped when they made it back to him.

"I've got good news and I've got bad news." Shadow looked at them. Zane and Tris exchanged glances and looked back at Shadow. "It's just a solid stretch of grass and the only way we all will make it for sure is if we gallop harder then you two have ever galloped probably."

"And the good news?" Tris looked at Shadow.

"That was the good news." He looked at them. Zane and Tris both looked confused. "The bad news is there are traps set in these fields and the terrain after isn't much better. So we all have to be both fast and cautious." Shadow looked toward the field. The other foals he has saved have been more athletic then these two and some still didn't make it. But he kept his hopes up as best he could.

"Let's get this over with then!" Zane smiled. He could tell this troubled Shadow, he didn't want them to fail. Tris nodded in agreement.

"Follow my hoof steps. Step where I step as fast as I step. Got it?" Shadow looked back at them. Tris and Zane both nodded. Shadow cantered quickly. The other two had to gallop to keep up with him because they haven't done anything like this in their whole lives. Shadow stepped in many different patterns quickly. Zane, right behind shadow, did every single step without fail. Tris, who was behind Zane, had to slow down a lot so she could make the steps without falling, she wasn't small like the colts were so this was harder.

Shadow galloped when he hit the safe spot in the field. Zane struggled to keep up and Tris was still stepping around traps. Zane looked back at Tris.

"Shadow, Tris is pretty far behind... Shouldn't we wait for her?" Zane kept galloping with Shadow. Shadow looked back and shook his head. He broke to a trot and Zane followed his lead. Tris galloped up to them.

"Try your best to keep up." Shadow looked at Tris and then galloped forward again. Tris nodded, she was trying as best she could. The two followed Shadow.

Zane felt as if they would never stop galloping. His lungs burnt from it. Shadow slowed to a canter, he jumped from place to place so quickly Tris and Zane had troubles figuring out where to put their hooves.

Shadow made it to the next safe zone and started galloping again. Zane was further ahead of Tris again. She frantically looked around for where to step.

Tris felt a strange hot wind on her neck. She slowly craned her neck around to see what it was. Rorke was standing right behind her. He smirked.

"You lost little filly?" Rorke laughed.

"SHADOW!" Tris bucked at Rorke still trapped in the middle of a danger zone. Shadow slid on his back hooves and spun around. He saw Rorke standing behind Tris. He raced back to them as fast as he could.

Rorke looked at Shadow and smirked. He was always getting in the way of Rorkes plans. He lifted his back hoof and kicked Tris into a different area of the danger zone. Tris rolled through the grass and got up. She looked around petrified.

"What not Shadow? It's me or the foals you are trying to save." Rorke smirked. Shadow grabbed his sword as he galloped for Rorke. Tris stood there not wanting to move.

Rorke pulled out his gun and pointed it at Zane. "I wouldn't if I were you." Rorke smirked. Shadow halted. Rorke laughed. "Now you are going to let me take them both and I'll leave you here to die. Or I could bring you back to the king because he does have a few things he'd LOVE to say to you." Rorke looked at Shadow.

"Ya right after you go f*** yourself." Shadow smirked. Rorke raised an eyebrow at Shadow.

"So, it's gonna be like that is it?" Rorke cocked the hammer on his gun, still pointed at Zane who stood there. Shadow looked at Tris and Zane. "I'll give you to the count of 10."

Shadow looked at Zane. Zane looked at him shaking, he didn't want to go back. Shadow nodded at Zane and slightly cocked his head and nodded the way signaling Zane to run. Shadow looked at Tris. He couldn't help her.

"Times up." Rorke smirked.

"That was not 10 seconds!" Shadow looked at Rorke annoyed. Shadow swished his tail and Zane perked his ears up.

"To late." Rorke pulled the trigger on his gun but Zane was already gone. He galloped through the last danger zone following where Shadow had stepped earlier and continued on to the forest.

Tris looked at Shadow. He could see the fear in her eyes. Shadow looked at Rorke and narrowed his eyes.

"Tris. I want you to take a step left and then gallop." Shadow looked at Tris. Rorke didn't remember exactly where he put his traps he just knew how to get through on one round about path.

Tris trusted Shadow. She lifted her hoof and placed it down to the left of her. She heard a small click. She galloped the fastest she has ever galloped forward. Shadow galloped after her. Rorke began to canter after them but the land mine blew up, sending Rorke flying to the side. Shadow kept galloping with Tris following beside him.

They made it to the forest. Rorke got up and shook his head. He saw the foals at the edge of the forest and narrowed his eyes. He galloped after them, throwing his legs out in front of him opening his stride.

"RUN!" Shadow spun around and took off galloping. Tris and Zane didn't hesitate to follow him. Rorke chased after them over the rocky terrain. Zane was getting really tired.

As the group galloped up the rocky hill side Tris slipped and her back legs fell over the edge. She whinnied helplessly as she tried to pull herself back up. Shadow galloped up to her and pulled her back up, slipping on the rocks as he did. This was the reason he was at the back of the group for this.

Rorke didn't give up the chase. He galloped up right behind Shadow and nipped him on the flank. Shadow bucked him in the chest, slipping on a rock and cutting his front leg but got back up and continued after Zane and Tris. Rorke fell behind a little.

"Keep going!" Shadow looked behind them. He couldn't see Rorke anymore but he wasn't sure if it was because he was some where else around them or if he was actually gone.

The group galloped through the night. Slipping and falling on almost every rock. The sun started to rise.

Shadow kept the two galloping. Zane tripped over a tree root as the galloped. Shadow and Tris stopped. Zane couldn't pick him self up. He was to tired. They all were.

"We can rest here." Shadow looked back breathing hard. Tris handed every pony a glass of water. Shadow chugged his.

Zane fell asleep fast. Tris looked at Shadow and smiled.

"Thank you." She nodded at Shadow and laid her head down.

"You're welcome." Shadow smiled.

The group fell asleep as the sun raised in the sky.
