What.....?
Where am I? What's going on?! Why is everything so bright?! All these questions bounced back and forth from the insides of my head, searching for answers.
Panicking, I tried to move my head, only to feel a throbbing pain shoot through my body. This happened anytime I made any attempt to move my body.
After what felt like forever, the bright light subsided, revealing a massive forest with trees everywhere. Feeling uncertain, I lifted my head to look around.
I wished I hadn't.
The horror sent a wave of nausea of me as I saw two charred bodies sprawled across the blood-stained grass. Fighting off the pain, I scrambled to my feet to get a better view of things.
The trees closest to me were burnt and blackened from what I would guess was fire. The grass was brown from its loss of life, matted with blood, damp soil, and ice shards everywhere. Something very bad happened here, but I don't know what.
I looked up at the sky to see that it was nighttime, lit with the soft glow of a million stars and a full moon. The night was filled with nature's sounds of insects accompanied by the bird's harmonious chirps. But the eeriness was the glistening eyes glaring at me from behind the shadows casted from the branches.
In sheer terror, I curled up in a ball and fell flat on the ground, silently crying as if I would wake up the creatures that prowled when the moon arose.
Death...
The thought made my mind go hazy as I suddenly felt a burst of anger. I bared my teeth, feeling an immense amount of power release from my body. My fingers dug into the ground as I slowly sat up on my knees. The ground beneath me withered as the odd power continued to leak from my body.
"Why are you crying?"
My head shot up at the sound of an unknown voice. It was so angelic and soft. I could tell that it was a girl, like a young girl. "Who's there?"
Silence greeted my call, and nothing moved to indicate there being someone nearby.
"Don't worry, everything is going to be alright."
I stood up this time, struggling with the fact that I was still in pain. "Where are you? How come I can't see you?"
"That's because I'm a spirit, silly."
"I guess that makes sense." I noted.
"So why were you crying?"
"I-I'm scared..." I croaked with tear-filled eyes. "I don't know what happened, a-and I don't know where I am..."
"Who are your parents?"
I froze. "I....don't know who my parents are...I don't know anything. I can't remember anything!"
"It's okay, I'll take you to the village. Everything will be alright, okay?"
"How can a spirit show someone something?" I asked.
"I will, so don't question it! Now follow me!!"
I looked around. "But I can't see you, so how can I follow you?"
Suddenly a small ball of light appeared. It was no bigger than my fist.
"Now follow me."
I shrugged, following the strange little light.
"So what's a 6 year old like you doing out here?"
I frowned. "We've been over this, remember?"
"Oh that's riiiiiiight, sorry."
"I-it's fine." I murmured.
"What's your name?"
"Lycas. My name's Lycas Ichigua." I replied.
"That's a weird name."
"So," I retorted. "Maybe you're weird."
"Hold up, tiger. I was only teasing you."
I puffed my cheeks out. "That's no fair."
The rest of the trip was silent. I felt very safe around the spirit. She's definitely not familiar, but she seems very nice.
I was very tired when we arrived at town. But oddly, the spirit disappeared when I turned around.
I was alone....again.
I stumbled from door to door, looking for a place to stay. Each time I had no success. I was greeted with a "Get lost, runt!" or a "Go away, you little brat!"
Defeated, I found an abandoned house and decided to stay there for the night. Something crawled across the ground, causing me to jump away in fear. I sat in the corner and wrapped my arms around my legs.
The sounds of mysterious animals and the wind howling past broken windows kept me awake. I couldn't get the images of the dead bodies out of my head. They haunted me like an unwanted nightmare, always coming back when you felt like they were gone.
My family, I hope they're looking for me. I wondered what happened to cause me to be where I was? Did I even have a family left?
Was there someone out there waiting for me?
