Preparation

I walked out of the guild, heading to the forest. I don't know why, but the forest seems to naturally draw me towards it.... That and it's the best place to blow off steam. None of that mattered, because I had to prepare.

I was going to kill Hades for what he did to my parents...

I'm going to murder Himiki for killing Lucy...

And most of all...

I'll find my answers...

I put my hand on in my pocket and pulled out the dragon ring, the one from the small box. It was a simple, really. The base of the ring was all black with a silver frame. There was Japanese inscription on the ring, almost burnt into it. The writing was crimson red, it reminded me of blood.

I placed it on my left ring finger and instantly, I felt something course through me; a strange power that I've never felt before, but then came the pain. It felt as if the ring was burning the very flesh it was on. The searing pain blurred my eyes and flooded my veins, scorching every inch of my body.

After a while and the pain ceased, I looked down at my hand and saw that the ring was gone. Did it just frigging melt into my finger?! Damn, what were my foster parents thinking, giving me a death trap for my finger? But that wasn't the only thing that was different. The Japanese inscriptions ran down my fingers and looped around to my palm, swirling into a circle. Bold black streaks wrapped around my forearm, in the form of a dragon. It was hot to the touch, but this power was...... unnatural. It was actually terrifying to think what could become of it.

I looked at the trees surrounding me and smirked.

"I think it's about time for a little practice." I said out loud. "Summoning Magic: Targets!"

A bull's-eye target appeared on the trees, allowing me to have something better to aim at. There were twenty-eight of them in total, so that should give me enough before I have to replace them again. I wouldn't quit until I've mastered this new ability. I took off my vest and hung it on a nearby branch, sticking far from its tree.

I looked at one of the targets and felt my pupils narrow to slits. The corners of my eyes stung crimson red, indicating my eye color changed. "Demon Sage's Flaming Claw Strike!"

The inscriptions glowed white and the streaks on my arm turned into fragments of a black crystal that encased my entire arm. I clenched my fist and the fragments at the tips of my fingers grew, turning into talons. White fire covered the talons and shot right at the target, bursting into an explosion of colorless fire.

Gasping for air, I fell back, feeling myself go back to normal. "I'll call it.....Demon Sage Magic."

"That sounds good. It matches its abilities well."

I got up and spun around, encountering the source of the voice. It was a girl, I'd guess a year or two younger than me. She had light brown hair that stopped at her butt, tucked behind her...pointed ears? Well, all except a stray piece of hair. Her bright blue eyes looked so kind and innocent, going perfectly with her light tanned skin. A thin, white sleeveless hoodie that was zipped up halfway clung to her body, exposing the top of her busty cleavage. She wore a red skirt accompanied with long black socks with black shoes. There was no guild mark seen, so was she a commoner or a guild-less Mage?

I huffed and wiped sweat off of my forehead. "Who are you and what are you doing here?"

"Well," the girl blushed. "I heard some noise and...came to see what it was."
