His laugh was the soundtrack of your dreams. The sound echoing through your the vast expanse of your dreams. His smiling face was the image that you couldn't shake from your mind, haunting your reveries. How he looked on stage, playing his bass passionately. The way his voice sounded in the morning, when he was trying to get you to cuddle with him for longer. He always succeeded in getting you to stay with him, apart from when it really mattered. Every minute detail about him was permanently etched into your brain. You had often caught yourself absent mindedly drawing him. He was like your default setting. You weren't too worried about these reoccurring memories, you knew it would take you some time to get over a boy as perfect as Calum. You weren't worried at all, that was until the nightmares started.
You were unsure of what to call the 'nightmares' that seeped well past the the boundaries of sleep and into your daily life. In the nightmares you were in a dark room; no windows, no doors yet there was a sliver of light. It was like you were the light source, like you were glowing. You could only faintly make out a familiar figure with its back to you in the shadows. He seemed to be camouflaged, you couldn't quite tell where he ended and the darkness began. It was almost as if the shadows were where he belonged, as if he was darkness, and the darkness was him. Only when he turned to face you were you sure that the figure was Calum, only when he turned to face you were you sure that the figure wasn't human.
Then you would be transported to another scene. A scene where you were forced to watch the moment where Calum couldn't make you stay. You noticed everything your past self didn't; the pain in Calum's eyes, how strained his voice was, how he gritted his teeth to stop from crying as he watched you go. As you watched your saw the hurt in Calum, and you cursed yourself for leaving.
That was it, that thing that brought you there only wanted to torture you with the what could have been's. That was all it wanted, until now.

Now you are in the dark room, leaning against the wall. You have checked the room for exits, you found nothing. Your phone is in your hand, useless, it won't turn on at all. You have no idea how long you've been here, you have no idea where here even is. You go to sit down on the floor, but a tap on your shoulder stops you. A shiver runs down your spine, how on earth did you go from leaning against a wall to standing in the centre of the room? You hear a chuckle behind you and you turn around to see Calum smirking at you.
'Princess,' you hear him say and you jump. You never saw him speak, but his voice is exactly how you remember it. Calum chuckles evily, obviously you are amusing him, and this frustrates you.
'Don't worry, I'm only inside your head' he says... In your head.
'How reassuring.' you spit back.
'You're feistier than I remember.' he finally speaks out loud.
'Where are we?' you rolled your eyes, you don't have time for this, you had a date tonight and you still needed to get ready. Calum hisses at that.
'I'm afraid your date's cancelled tonight, babygirl' He says and your eyes widen.
'Where the hell are we Calum?' you say with more force this time.
'I think the question is where in hell are we.' Calum said quietly. Just as your jaw was dropping in shock, the room around you disappeared.
You are falling, you know that even though you have your eyes closed. You know that Calum's arms are wrapped around you even though you're trying not to think about them. You're trying to ignore how having Calum's arms around you is making you feel safe and at home. You're trying to overlook how having Calum this close to you is making your heart race, and you're not doing a very good job. You are very aware of Calum inside your head, reading your thoughts. You are aware, and he is aware. He finds it amusing that you are trying to deny your feelings, because he knows everything about you, he knows the things you won't admit to even yourself.
All of a sudden you are flipped around, and you are no longer falling. You are flying. As a child, you never understood why anyone dreamt of flying. Now you understood. Flying feels like, if you let yourself, you could forget all your worries and be in full control of something for once. If you let yourself.  You are extremely careful not to allow yourself to let go.
'Don't open your eyes.' you hear Calum's voice in your head once again. You almost listen to him, you should've listened to him. Right before you open your eyes you hear Calum growl.
'You shouldn't have done that princess.' He was right, you really shouldn't have. What you see chills you to the core, a blood red sky, a river of bones and worst of all the helpless souls. They are just dark shadows really, barely recognisable human features were they only thing that tell you otherwise. Their desperate cries send shivers up and down your body.
'They're looking for their loved ones.' Calum informs you.
'Will they ever find them?' You ask quietly.
'No.' He replied. This shocks you, Calum usually wasn't so blunt with you, but after everything that has happened between you, It should'nt have been so surprising.
'This is only the fate of criminals though isn't it? Good people go to heaven.' You ramble, everything you are seeing was causing panic to rise in your throat. Calum chuckes before responding.
'No such thing as heaven. This is where you go when you die, no exceptions' The weight of everything that is happening to you suddenly hits you, and everything goes black as you faint in Calum's arms.
