We all sat in the Hall, anxious for the Hogwarts champion to be announced.
The flame turned red, and spit the paper from the Goblet.
Dumbledore caught it, and glanced down at it.
"The Hogwarts champion is...Cedric Diggory!"
The Hufflepuff table exploded;the others were applauding loudly as well, but their table was by far the loudest of the night, and for good reason. This was their chance to shine, their chance to win some recognition for their often ignored House.
As Cedric entered the room on the side of the teachers' table and the cheers died, Dumbledore started to speak.
"That brings our ceremony-" he stopped suddenly as the flames turned red for a fourth time.
He reached out, almost like he didn't mean to, and caught the slip of paper.
This one seemed to be burned more than the rest, for he looked at it for a long time, squinting slightly.
In the silence of the Hall, we all heard him mutter "Sarah Potter."
He then looked up and scanned the Hall. "Sarah Potter!" He called again, this time louder. Hermione reached over and pushed Sarah toward the platform.
She stumbled up there, and stopped in front of the Headmaster.
She was visibly shaking as he motioned her towards the room.
"That brings our ceremony to a close. Now off to bed," Dumbledore told us, waving his hands as if he was shooing is off.
Fred came up behind me, and whispered in my ear "Party in the Common Room," before taking off.
I shook my head and turned to Ron and Hermione.
"How d'you think she did it?" Ron asked, jealousy shadowing his features slightly.
"I don't think she did," said Hermione. "She told me several times that she didn't want to be in this thing."
"How do you know she wasn't lying?" Ron asked.
"Ron!" Hermione and I cried in unison.
"How could you?" I shouted.
He shrugged. "It's possible, isn't it? I mean, she did manipulate Sirius and Remus into adopting that little girl, and she still hasn't told anyone everything about what happened before she got to Hogwarts."
"Ronald, you git! Of course she did, did you not see that place?!" Hermione cried. "It was terrible!"
"And why should she tell anyone about it? It's her life, and she'll tell us when she feels like it!" I shouted.
By now, we were at the Fat Lady, and Ron said the password, shrugging once again.
"Maybe she's lying about it. Maybe she was adopted, she just wants sympathy." He said, turning to face us.
"What?! Ron, look at her! Look at how much she eats! If she had been adopted, she wouldn't look like that! She'd look like the rest of us!" I shouted at him.
"How do you know she doesn't metamorphmagus herself into that?" Ron asked in the tone of voice one used when asking about the weather, but his ears were turning red.
"Ronald Bilius Weasley, you complete-arg!" Hermione cried, tears in her eyes. She turned to me. "I can't deal with him. I'm sorry Harry. I'm going to bed."
I nodded. "Don't worry. I am too." With that, I pushed past Ron, catching his shoulder with mine. I climbed in bed, not bothering to change, and spent the night thinking of Ron and Sarah.
