I nervously reached for my hair, but Hermione slapped my hand away.
"Sarah. Lily. Potter. If you touch a hair on your head, so help me Merlin I will remove your hand," she threatened.
I lowered my hand and fidgeted with my dress, only to have my hand slapped away again, but by Morgana this time.
"Stop it! I've got it where it needs to be!" she whined at me as Crystal nearly stabbed me in the eye.
"Sorry!" she cried. "But if you had had your eyes closed it wouldn't have happened!"
I closed my eyes silently. Crystal, Morgana, and Hermione had been getting me ready for the ball for several hours.
I didn't mind as I would have been unable to do any of it myself, but it was a bit tiring.
"Done!" Hermione called, and I opened my eyes as she lead me to the mirror.
Looking back at me was a girl my size with bright red hair piled in curls on top of her head, held there by pins that sparkled and flashed as they caught the light. She was dressed in an emerald green dress that had an empire waist and a skirt that flared out to the floor, the material sparkling just like the pins. Her arms were bare, and her makeup was almost nonexistent- it only accentuated her green eyes.
The scar on her face reminded me that it was indeed me, but tonight, even with my scar, I felt- and looked- beautiful.
The three girls behind me stood stock still, silently waiting for me to say something.
"I look... pretty," I whispered, and they all began to gush.
"You look gorgeous!"
"Absolutely stunning!"
"I'm so jealous!"
"You've got to go!"
"You're meeting Neville in ten minutes!"
And with that, they shoved me out the door with my heels in hand to go and meet Neville, Hermione following closely.
"Come on," she whispered excitedly.
"I'm coming!" I whispered back, my nerves reaching an all-time high, something that confused me.
Before I could mention it to Hermione though, we were in the Entrance Hall, and Neville was standing in front of me.
He looked very handsome in his black dress robes and emerald green tie as he slipped the corsage of white roses and sprigs of clover around my wrist.
"Clover?" I asked, curious.
He smiled. "It matches the dress, and the hair."
I smiled back, more confused than ever. He had out a lot of thought into this, he even matched his tie to my dress! And what was that? A funny feeling in my heart, my stomach doing flips...
I brushed it off. The doors were opening and now was certainly not the time.
The Champions and their dates led the way into the Great Hall for dinner to be started.
After dinner, we led the dancing. It was wonderful. I felt so light on my feet!
The Ball went until midnight, and I found myself among the stragglers as everyone cleared out around eleven thirty, Neville and I staying until the very end, dancing all the while.
He walked me up to the Tower as well, holding my shoes for me as we walked up the stairs, his own tied around his neck.
Neville whispered jokes all the way up, and I tried to keep my laughter as quiet as possible so as to not incur the wrath of any student or teacher.
He said goodbye at the bottom of the dormitory staircase, hugging me and handing me my shoes.
Hermione, Crystal, and Morgana had all fallen asleep on Hermione's while waiting for me, their hair a mess and their dresses rumpled.
I smiled and began to pull the pins out of my hair, humming as I waltzed around the room.
Only when I laid in bed twenty minutes later, having removed the makeup and dress and thrown on my pyjamas did I remember the feeling in my heart earlier.
It was confusing to say the least, and entirely new to me.
Falling asleep, I decided to ask Hermione about it later that day.
