Who Matters Most to a Champion?

I lay in bed, thinking of the upcoming task. It was taking a lot out of me, and, I feared, creating a ridge between Neville and I (even though I'd never admit that to anyone, most especially Hermione).

I had worked out the clue with a little unwanted help from Moaning Myrtle, the ghost Harry had told me they had met in the second year.

"But who?" I accidentally asked out loud, making Hermione jump. "Oh, sorry, 'Mione,"

"It's okay," Hermione replied  "What were you talking about though?"

"Well," I muttered. "Umm..."

"Come on, you can tell me," coaxed Hermione.

I sighed. "The next task. Dumbledore is going to take someone who goes here and is important to me and put them in the Black Lake and give me an hour to bring them back. I just don't know who it will be."

Hermione looked troubled. "Really?"

I nodded. "One person from every champion."

Hermione went silent. "Do you know a small group of people it could be?"

I shook my head. "I only know a small group of people. You, Harry, the Weasleys, Sirius, Remus, Annalise, Neville and the teachers here."

Hermione looked thoughtful. "Well, it's obviously not a teacher, it can't be. It's probably not Sirius or Remus, or Mr. or Mrs.Weasley. That leaves Ron, Fred, George, Neville, Harry, Annalise, and me."

"I think you're Viktor's person,"  I told her truthfully.

She stared. "What makes you think that?"

I smiled at the high octave. "I've seen him starting at you in the library. I think he's got a thing for you, Herman."

She blushed. "No, it's not possible."

"So that eliminates you," I said, speaking over her. "Leaving the Weasley boys that still go to Hogwarts, Harry, Neville, and Annalise. I don't think it'll be Annalise, I don't know her that well, the last time I spent real time with her was when she was really young."

"So that leaves the Weasley boys, Harry, and Neville," she agreed, finishing my thought.

I nodded. "I don't think it's any of the Weasleys, maybe Ron."

She shook her head. "No, he's more important to Harry than to you. And we can get rid of Harry because of that as well. Which leaves-"

"Neville." I cut her off, blushing profusely.

She grinned. "Neville. Didn't he give you the gillyweed?"

I nodded again. "Yeah. He got it from-"

Hermione looked at me funny. "Why'd you stop?"

"I-I don't know where he got it...I think he stole it from Snape's store!" I cried, smacking my forehead.

Hermione looked like she was about to laugh. "Neville stole from Snape for you?"

I nodded.."That's what it seems like..."

Hermione looked thrilled. "He must really like you! His worst fear is Snape!"

"Really?" I asked, unable to stop myself.

She nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah, that's what the boggart turned into last year."

I smiled, fighting to contain my haywire emotions.

"That's nice to know," I said, pulling my curtains shut. "Night 'Mione."

"Night Sarah," she yawned, and moments later the dormitory was silent. I soon fell asleep as well.
