I, however, felt tiny hands on my ankles, and was pulled under, I tried fighting, but the lack of oxygen was making it hard to think, and my sight was getting dark. I felt tiny nails digging into me as I was dragged down, and then things went dark.
Everyone was crying, wailing as she was pulled from the water. Was she okay? Was she just passed out from lack of oxygen? She'd lost so much blood from the scratches- the water was swirling pinkish grey- was she going to live? Even the students from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons were somber, how could they be anything else? Dumbledore amplified his voice and announced that everyone was to leave for their respective resting places- whether castle, ship, or carriage- and that the scores would be announced at supper that evening. Magicking the girl onto a stretcher, the Heads of each school surrounded her and escorted her to the Hospital Wing while Minerva McGonagall gathered her friends and brother and herded them after the floating stretcher, leaving the other teachers to get the students back to where they belonged.
I blinked- my vision was fuzzy, there was something floating in the blur above me; I blinked again, and a long, thin, crooked nose with a pair of golden glasses perched on the end of them came into slight focus. Another blink, and the vaguely disembodied head of Albus Dumbledore shifted into clarity.
"Pr- Professor?" I croaked, throat burning as much as the rest of my skin. "Wh-"
He hushed me quickly. "Don't speak just yet. Let me explain what happened first, then ask questions." Dumbledore paused, and when I nodded, he continued. "You were attacked by grindylows, and because of the loss of the gillyweed's effects, you were apparently unable to fight back. This led to you taking in massive amounts of water, nearly drowning, and being scratched something awful by the grindylows. You lost quite a bit of blood. I admit, most of us were afraid you would not last the night. The following day, when it became clear you would indeed survive, our main fear became you would remain comatose. You've been asleep almost a fortnight now."
I remained silent for a moment after he finished, then said, "I'm so behind in my classes."
Dumbledore let out a chuckle before replying. "I'm sure your teachers will be understanding."
"Is Harry alright?" I asked, my brother my secondary thought, even before myself. "What about Remus and Sirius?"
"Harry is fine," Dumbledore replied, looking suddenly very old. "He and your friends have been very concerned about you, and have spent every free moment here.
"Sirius and Remus are also well," He continued, then paused. "However they are rather- ah- displeased- with the circumstances, not that one can blame them. The moment I leave here, I shall be alerting them to the fact that you've woken up."
I nodded. "I uh- I'm okay too? Maybe not clean bill of health, but I mean, I'm obviously not dead so-"
Dumbledore chuckled again, and nodded. "Madame Pomfrey will want to keep you another day or two, I'm sure, but yes, you will be okay. However, speaking of, I should probably fetch her and allow her to look after her patient while I contact Sirius and Remus and alert Harry to your waking up."
