The Second Task (2/3)

I stood facing the water, wary of the task ahead. I turned and smiled at Ron as he cried out a "good luck," then back to face the water daunting me.

This was going to be fun.

The cannon blasted, and cheers tore through the stadium. I popped the gillyweed in my mouth and chewed furiously, the others having already divided in the water.

A moment later, my throat and chest were burning. I clapped a hand to my neck and felt  raised skin. Gills! I should have known.

I dived in, swiming as fast as possible for the bottom. Following the natural platform of the land seemed like the best idea.

Until, that is, I reached the practical forest of seaweed. Every time my foot brushed by some, another water-demon-thing popped out and required a hit in the face with hot water (which seemed to be the only thing my wand could conjure at the bottom of the lake).

When I finally reached the end of the forest, I had to force myself to continue forward and not think about the others. I hadn't seen anyone after diving in, so I just had to assume they were all okay and knew what they were doing.

As I made my mind ignore the thoughts of 'what if they don't get their person' I came upon a town of crude rock houses. The closer to the centre I got, the nicer they were. Several of them had the water-demon-things tied outside the door like pets. Merpeople were in every door and window, staring at me and whispering in their beautiful underwater language.

In the very centre was a massive statue of a merman; tied to his tail were four bodies, all floating, their hair swirling around them as the water moved. I was first? I looked behind the statue and saw what looked like the commanding officers of a mer-army, and from the looks on their faces, I knew they had been there for a while, and wouldn't be able to leave until all the people were rescued.

Swimming closer, I saw Neville and Hermione, some Ravenclaw, and a petite girl with silvery blonde hair.

I had a feeling if I tried to take more than Neville, the merfolk guarding wouldn't let me take even him.

So, I sat behind the statue and decided to wait and make sure the others got taken.

I motioned to the merperson who looked like the leader, and mimed what I was going to do. They confirmed my suspicion of stopping me if I tried to take more than one person, but appreciated my want to save others, too.

I watched as Cedric came and saved the Ravenclaw, followed shortly by a half-man, half-shark hybrid that I was afraid would tear Hermione in half. I waited and waited for Fleur, but when she never came, I looked apologetically at the merpeople and quickly shot jets of hot water at the strings of seaweed, severing them and causing the little girl and Neville to float up a bit.

I grabbed both of them and started swimming up. This trip was harder, burdened by the weight of two people, but I was doing alright until the gillyweed stopped working. I felt it getting harder and harder to swim, and when I took a breath, instead of breathing I got a lungful of water.

I kept pushing though. I had to get them to safety.

After what felt like forever, I finally reached the top, and Neville and the little girl breathed a deep breath, and started to swim on their own.

I, however, felt tiny hands on my ankles, and was pulled under, I tried fighting, but the lack of oxygen was making it hard to think, and my sight was getting dark. I felt tiny nails digging into me as I was dragged down, and then things went dark.

A/N- hey guys. Sorry for the wait. Stuff has been stuff lately, and I haven't had any inspiration.
I'm also sorry if this chapter sucks massively, but I really did try and hope it's at least half decent.
Please also don't kill me (you know who you are (your comment made me laugh))

Thanks again guys, for your all support. I really appreciate the messages and comments, you don't even know.

Love you guys!
