Dan's POV:
Dan woke up remembering everything. Aaron. The most obnoxious guy on the planet. As obnoxious as your alarm clock in the morning, though at least the alarm had some purpose. The fact he had school today and not returning home that night, well, he's not some lost 9 year old, but in his mum's eyes he was. He felt too lazy and carefree to be bothered about going to school, though his mum would probably be angry. Last night though.
With Phil.
Was something not even the word 'perfect' could define. It was so much more than perfection.
Dan rolled around so he was turned facing Phil, fast asleep and watched in fascination. He was in awe of how adorable Phil looked sleeping, so that's what he did for the last 5 minutes. Just gazed at him. That was until Phil's eyes fluttered, gradually opening; Dan was gazing at Phil awake.
"Morning handsome." Dan giggled, stroking his ebony, knotty hair. Still adjusting his vision after just waking up, Phil did traditional and adorable eye rub, then shuffled until he was sat up straight. "Morning beautiful.".
And Dan was in love. Hopelessly falling in love more and more every single day. He couldn't find a way out, and he didn't want to find a way out. All he wanted was to be forever snuggled in Phil's arms.
4 months later, July 21st, Dan had finished school. It was freedom. He no longer had to be restricted to silly little rules, he could do whatever he wanted to (well, except illegal things of course), BE whatever he wanted to be. Independence. But let's rewind back to 11th of June; Dan's birthday.
He woke up to the sun burning bright in his eyes and across his bed. He hadn't drawn the curtains so of course that was expected. The first thing he remembered was that he 17. His mum knocked, then slowly opened the door and checked to see if Dan was awake, which he was. She flashed a smile, then walked into the centre of his small, cramped room, holding a small present wrapped up in black and green polka dot paper. On top, rested a card in a lime green envelope.
"Happy birthday, Daniel." His mother said, beaming happy as Larry. Dan, still in bed, sat up straight and was passed his present. He fiercely tore at the paper which revealed a cardboard box, which he opened.
Nothing.
"Thanks mum." Dan said sarcastically, then laughed.
"Open your card.".
He, in a much more formal way opened the card and froze in complete disbelief.
Inside this card were two Muse concert tickets. Dan picked one ticket up and thoroughly checked in case his mum was once again pulling his leg. But she wasn't. It was genuinely real. Big things certainly did come in small packages.
"Mum... Wow, thank you so much." Dan said, his eyes still glimmering at the tickets.
"Oh, you're welcome," she said happily, "I knew how much you and Phil wanted to see Muse live.".
"Thanks mum-.".
"It's okay, Dan." She assured. His mum never really disappointed when it came to making Dan happy.
"For understanding. Hey, speaking of 'understanding', where's Nick?". Dan knew exactly where he was. Work. He was a typical, boring office man.
Nick was Dan's dad. He stopped calling him dad when Nick stopped being a dad.
"Dan, he's still your dad. Please don't call him by his name." His mum asked, the smile disappearing from her face.
"Well, he no longer thinks of me as his 'son', now does he?". His mother remained silent, not making eye contact with her son. "Yeah, anyways, breakfast time!". Dan grinned over enthusiastically, jumping out of bed and walked out his bedroom downstairs. After a few sad moments his mum had to herself, she eventually headed downstairs to prepare breakfast too.
Later after a few birthday messages of people, including Oliver, Jennifer, other pupils, teachers. Many boring lessons later, Phil had texted to Dan to come around over and of course, without hesitation, that is what Dan did. England decided "hey, it's Dan's birthday, let's be sunny and warm for a chance.", so Dan walked from school to Phil's with the sun boiling his back.
He arrived at Phil's house to see someone sat on the step, soaking up in the sun wearing sunglasses. Phil. He got up off the floor and removed his sunglasses, perking up at the sight of Dan in front of him.
"Happy birthday, Dan." Phil said, squeezing Dan tightly in his embrace.
"Thanks Philly! Ooh, you will never believe what I got from my mum.".
Phil lead Dan into his home and there on the breakfast bar, sat a luscious, scrumptious chocolate cake. It mocked Dan and screamed "eat me" it was just that appetising. Dan jogged over to the cake, gawking at the cake.
"So, what did you get from your mum then?" Phil asked, wrapping his arms around Dan from behind, making Dan grin more than he already was. Dan turned around to tell Phil this good news.
"2 Muse tickets!" Dan practically screamed in his face.
Dan watched as Phil eyes widened with joy.
"YOUR MUM IS THE BEST.". Phil blurted out and waved Dan's hands around. Dan giggled, then nodded. "She is.".
