"Hello!" Marina's mom, Miranda, greeted her old friend, Melissa. Marina nodded politely, gripping her cane tightly. Her brown eyes darted all over the place, looking but not processing.
"Miranda!" Melissa hugged her mom. "And Marina! It's been so long! Look at you, all grown up. And you're getting prettier too!" She squealed happily.
"Thank you Auntie." Marina bowed politely.
"I brought my son." Melissa pulled out a little boy from behind her around Marina's age. "This is Namjoon. Say hi." She prodded him.
"Hi Auntie Miranda. Hi Marina." He said shyly. Marina smiled. She could tell he was a shy boy. She nodded in the general direction of the voice, waving. Namjoon noticed that she wasn't actually waving to her, and she didn't really know where she was waving to. "Mommy." He whispered. "Why isn't Marina waving to me? She's waving to the door." Marina heard and put her hand down, pointing her head down, embarrassed.
"Namjoon..." Melinda hissed. Miranda pulled Marina close.
"It fine mom... It's because I'm blind Namjoon. I can't see anything. So naturally I just wave in the direction of your voice. I'm sorry if I waved to the door instead of you." Marina bowed in apology. "Excuse me. I need to use the washroom." Tucking her cane under her arm, she walked off.
"Sorry." Melinda looked up to apologize to her friend on behalf of Namjoon. "Apologize." She shoved Namjoon forward.
"Sorry Auntie." Namjoon bowed.
"It's okay. Marina will be fine in a little. She's just a little sensitive about her eyes..." She sighed. "Anyways come in! I haven't seen you in ages!" She led them into the house. A couple minutes later Marina came down.
Namjoon got up. "Marina. I'm really sorry. I didn't know!"
"It's fine." She smiled at him. "Do you want to come? I can give you a tour round the house..." She propped her cane on the wall and held her hand out to Namjoon. Namjoon got up and took her hand.
"How come you don't need your cane?" Namjoon asked, curiously.
"This is my house that I've been living in for like 10 years. So obviously I know my surroundings... and being blind tends to help other senses, and stuff like memory. Also... I was able to see when I was really little..." Marina sighed. "My mom tries not to change the furniture around that much..."
"Where's your dad?" Namjoon looked around.
"Left after I lost my sight..." She shrugged like it was nothing, but her hand got clammy. "Thought I was too much of a bother... That's the kitchen..." She pointed to the left. "You want to go to my bedroom?"
"Sure." Namjoon shrugged.
"C'mon." After they were in her room, sitting on the bed, Marina suddenly spoke up. "I have a request."
"What is it?" He turned to look at her.
"Can... can I see you?" She asked.
"See me?" Namjoon wrinkled his brow, confused. "But I thought you couldn't see..."
"Not with my eyes, with my hands..." She pointed her head down, embarrassed. "You know what? Never mind. That was an awkward request."
"No it wasn't. I was just a little confused." Namjoon said. "Sure you can see me." He agreed.
Marina's face lit up. "Really?" Namjoon laughed and nodded.
Then remembering that she couldn't see that, he cleared his throat. "Yeah sure."
