By Your Side (Lay EXO)

"Kace?" Her best friend called her from another room. 

"Yeah?" She responded. 

"Kace come here" Her voice cracked. Kace got up and went downstairs. Her best friend was sitting on the couch, holding a letter, tears pouring down her face. 

"What's wrong Nixy?" Kace was starting to get nervous. Her bestie handed her the letter. 

'Dear Ms. Kassandra Li,

We're sorry to inform you that you're father has died in action.' 

Kace didn't read anymore after that. "Nixy? Tell me this is a prank letter. Please." Kace begged, denying everything. Her father was alive, serving in the Korea army and he would be back in a month. This stupid paper didn't mean anything.

Nixy raised her head, staring sadly at Kace. "I'm sorry..." Kace screamed, falling to the floor. Her father was her only family left, after her mom and little sister died in a tragic accident. Then he went to go serve his two years in the army, and this happened. "I called Lay he's coming over now." Nixy informed her friend but she was already back in her bedroom, with the door locked. "Kace!" She called, knocking on the door. She could hear her friend sobbing in there. "Kace please open up!"

"Just leave me alone!" Kace yelled. Nixy sighed and went to go open the door for the person who just rang it. 

"Lay." Nixy's face softened. "She's in her room, and she's not letting me in." Lay nodded and walked to the door, knocking softly on it. Nixy grabbed her stuff and left the couple alone. 

"Jagi? Kace jagi. Open up please." He said softly. Kace sat inside, sobbing, not listening to Lay. "Kace please let me in." He begged. Kace got up slowly from her bed. She walked to the door, and buried her face in his chest. 

"Yixing oppa." She sobbed into his shirt. 

"Shhh. It's okay. Oppa's here." He cooed. 

"It hurts. Too much." She cried. 

"I know it does." He picked her up and brought her to the bed, where he gently laid her down and cuddled up next to her. "Just sleep for a little. I'll stay with you." 

~When Kace Wakes Up~

Kace shot up, sweating, her face streaked with tears. She had dreamt about her father, spending his last nights at the camp, not even able to see her. At this thought, she cried even harder, waking up the sleeping Lay beside her. "Hey jagi." He got up and rubbed her back. "It's okay." 

After several minutes, her crying died down. "I... I need to be alone for a little. Please Yixing. Just for a little." She said, calming herself down. 

He frowned. "You sure?" She nodded. "Okay." He smiled softly. "Call me if you want anything." She nodded and he left the room. After he left, Kace pulled her knees up to her chest. 

"Kace. Pull yourself together. Face the truth. Dad's not coming back anymore." When she said this to herself, she choked back a sob. She lay down on her bed, letting out a muffled scream into her pillow. "I wish I could follow them." She sobbed. But then she realized. Death is the coward's way out. It's selfish and cowardly. That was the path she couldn't take. She had to keep living for Yixing. She slightly smiled at the thought of Yixing. He was always there for her. When her mom and her younger sister passed on, when she graduated, and now. When her dad left. She gave herself five seconds. After five seconds, she went to the bathroom and cleaned up a bit. 

When she walked out, she found Lay in the kitchen, cooking something. Quietly, she snuck up behind him and hugged him. Lay turned around smiling. "Hey jagi." He pecked her lips. 

Kace looked deep in his eyes. "Oppa..." She paused. 

"What is it love?" Lay asked patiently. 

"Why do you love me?" Kace blurted out. 

Lay paused. "That's a silly question jagi." He pecked her nose. "I love you because you're you. I love everything about you." He smiled. And despite the pain she was feeling, Kace found it in her to smile back. "Jagi. I want you to remember this." He stopped to kiss her quickly. "I'll always be here." Kace smiled softly and buried her face in his chest. She nodded, sobbing. She was going to be fine, she was going to keep moving forward, but she wasn't alone, because she had Lay by her side.
