As we stepped off the Hogwarts Express, I couldn't believe my eyes about how beautiful the castle was. There were lights illuminating every window and it had a cheery feel to it. I wasn't outside the train for 5 seconds before a loud voice broke my thoughts.

"Firs' years! O'er here!" The voice belonged to that of a huge giant that was twice the height of a normal man. Harry said his name was Rubeus Hagrid and he was the gamekeeper of Hogwarts. We followed the rest of the first years over to Hagrid, who then led us to a dock with boats floating in the water next to it.

"No more than four to a boat," Hagrid called out as everyone started to board the boats. Of course, Harry, Ron, Hermione, and I were in the same boat. At Hagrid's word, the boats started steadily moving towards Hogwarts. All on their own.

We made it across and was led by Hagrid to the front gate, where we met Professor Mcgonagall. She led us up many flights of stairs and stopped us right outside two big, brass doors.

"Now before you can enter and join your classmates in the Great Hall, you must first be sorted into your houses. There's Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Now the ceremony will begin momentarily. Please wait here," Professor Mcgonagall said and she entered the doors to leave the first years outside alone.

"So it's true then? What their saying on the train? Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts," Draco drawled, already knowing the answer but wanting to get a reaction from the other first years. I could hear all the other children start to whisper as soon as they heard this and Draco smirked in response.

"You leave him alone, Malfoy!" I spat at him, furious that he even started this.

"Hold it, Fey," he smirked back. "No need to get involved now."

"There's every reason for me to get involved! Harry's my friend and I don't want people like you picking on him."

"I wan't picking on him," Draco said, looking hurt though I could see a mischievous glint in his pale, grey eyes. "I was just asking if the rumors were true."

"I didn't hear any rumors. You're probably just making it up," I said, giving him a look of pure death.

"Careful now, Fey. You don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort," he said looking over at Ron and Hermione with a distasteful eye. "I can help you there." He stuck out his hand as a way of asking me to join his little group of Crabbe, Goyle, and himself.

"No way would I ever want to join you much less be anything but your friend!" I snapped at him, fire burning in my hazel eyes.

"But we could be the best of friends," he pleaded, though his eyes told me otherwise. "We're very much alike you know. We both have the same ambitious fields."

Oh you did not just say that I though harshly, getting ready to punch him in the face or the stomach, whichever came first, when unfortunately, Professor Mcgonagall walked up and tapped her scroll on Draco's shoulder.

"We're ready for you now," she said with a stern look on her face.

We followed her through the large doors into the Great Hall. There were four long tables, one table per house I assumed, with hundreds of students sitting at them. In the front of the room was a long table for all the professors and a golden podium in the center of the staged area. We followed Professor Mcgonagall up to the front where we were instructed to line up before a wooden stool with a tattered old hat sitting on top of it.

"When I call you name, you will come and sit on this stool and I will place the sorting hat on your head," Professor Mcgonagall said. "Susan Bonds?"

A red-headed girl walked up to the stool with fear in her eyes. Professor Mcgonagall placed the hat on her head. The hat stayed silent for a minute before shouting out "Hufflepuff!"

Professor Mcgonagall continued to call up students. "Kyle Cleric?"

"Gryffindor!"

"Adrienne Fey?"

I walked up, self-conscious of the hundred of eyes looking at me. I sat down on the stool and Professor Mcgonagall put the hat on my head so that it covered my eyes. At first I heard nothing. But then, all of a sudden, a voice came into my head.

"Ah...a great witch you will be. But where to put you? Plenty of courage as well as wit and talent. An eagerness to prove yourself and a thirst for knowledge. I know just the right place. RAVENCLAW!"

The hat shouted out, making me jump a little. I got up off the chair and made my way over to the Ravenclaw house table to watch the rest of the ceremony. People continued to be called up until it was Hermione's turn. She walked up looking scared, but knowing her, it's just her concentration face. She sat down and had the hat be placed on her head. The hat was silent for a bit until shouting out "GRYFFINDOR!" Next came Ron. He too got sorted into Gryffindor. Next was Harry. Everyone was trying to catch a glimpse of him as he walked up. The hat stayed silent for quite a while before again yelling "GRYFFINDOR!" Then came Draco. The hat barely touched his head before shouting out "SLYTHERIN!" Draco, with a smirk on his face, waltzed over to the Slytherin table before shooting me a rather smug look.

I wonder what that was all about? I though as the ceremony ended and the feast began. I met two girls during the feast and we soon became the best of friends. The first girl I met was named Isabella Curtly and she was a first year like me and she had shoulder length dirty blonde hair with blue eyes. The second girl I met was named Vanessa Hathaway and she was a third year and had long black hair and dark brown eyes. We all had tons of things in common. We all loved quidditch and we're all very adventurous.

As the feast was coming to an end, and everyone was following the prefects to the common rooms, I caught one last glance at Draco but this time it wasn't smug or antagonistic. It was just full of sadness and regret. I was thinking about what that could mean until Vanessa's voice brought me back to reality.

"What do you think the Ravenclaw common room will look like?"

"I don't know," I answered. "But don't tell me. I want to look at it for myself with out anyone telling me about it."

We followed our prefect to a door with nothing but a bronze knocker shaped like an eagle. It asked a riddle and the prefect answered it and the door let them through.
