Chapter 10: Betrayal

I was walking sluggishly back to the common room, tired after a long day of classes and flying practice. I got inside and had only sat down on a couch for a few seconds when Izzi and Vanessa pulled me off and up into our dorm room.

"What do you guys want?" I asked as soon as I sat down on my bed.

"So me and Izzi were wondering what your note that you got the other day said?" Vanessa said, excitement shining in her eyes.

I pondered whether or not to show them and eventually decided to show them.

"Okay. But you have to promise not to tell anyone. Do you understand?"

"Yes, we understand perfectly," Vanessa said.

"Okay. Here's the not," I said as I gave them the note and watched their emotions on their faces as they read the riddle.

"Oh my gosh! You have a secret admirer!" Izzi squealed once she finished reading it.

"Yeah but I need help figuring the riddle out though. Do you guys want to help me?"

"Um...heck yes!" Vanessa said excitedly.

"Cool...we have about two weeks to figure it out," I described to them.

"Okay," Vanessa agreed. "Let's plan on making a time to meet together in the library and try to figure out the riddle."

"Good plan, Vanessa," I said. "What day were you thinking?"

"I was thinking maybe tomorrow during our free period," Vanessa suggested, looking at our timetable.

"That's a great idea! How about we meet in our common room and then walk to the library together."

"Okay. But now we should probably go to bed. It's getting late," Izzi observed, being the good older Ravenclaw she was.

"Okay. Goodnight everyone," I called out before laying my head on my pillow and immediately fell asleep.

I woke up and barely had time to get ready before rushing off to my double period of transfiguration. After that was charms, potions, lunch, and DADA. In DADA I almost got a detention for asking Vanessa for an extra quill. I managed to sweet talk my way out of it though. Then it was our free period. I walked to the common room and sat on the couch and did some potions homework while I waited for my friends to arrive.

I was just starting my paper on the polyjuice potion when Izzi walked in, followed my Vanessa.

"Hey Adrienne!" They greeted me.

"Hey guys. Ready to go to the library?"

"Yeah. And we have about an hour and a half so we should have plenty of time to figure the riddle out.

"Cool. Let's go."

We walked over to the library and found an empty table in the corner. We all sat down and I lay the paper out in front of us all.

"Okay so I suggest that we look over each line and then the entire riddle as a whole," I said once we were settled down.

"Good idea. So let's start with the first line: some dark, some light, but both together are unified as one." Vanessa said, taking the paper and reading the first line.

"Well what would the dark and light mean?" Izzi said, looking confused.

I though a bit and then I realized something. "Hey guys? What if the dark and light didn't mean actual darkness but like dark and lift sides? Like the Slytherins and the Gryffindors."
