"I'm so excited for next Monday!" Izzi squealed. We were sitting on my bed during our free period on Thursday, discussing the quidditch tryouts that were happening next Monday.
"I know right? I'm super excited but also super nervous."
"Don't be nervous. You're one of the best flyers in our class...well besides Harry."
"Thanks. Anyways...I wonder who else it trying out that is a first year? I heard from Fred that first years never make the tryouts," I said.
"I'm sure we'll both get in. Maybe your boyfriend Draco will be trying out for the Slytherin team," Izzi said with a laugh.
"Boyfriend? Really? Please...he's only an acquaintance," I said, smirking at Izzi.
"Really? Don't lie, Anne. I saw what you two were doing on the field," she said with yet another smirk.
I felt my cheeks heat up as a blush rose in my cheeks but I quickly forced it back down. "Wow. Really? You're going there? Come on Izzi. Knock it off. I don't even like him plus he's a Slytherin."
"So. I know Vanessa likes George and he's a Gryffindor."
"Yeah but that's different. Gryffindor is one of the best houses around. Besides Ravenclaw of course."
"True. Anyways if you don't like Draco, then who do you like?" Izzi said, relentlessly.
"And why would I tell you that?" I questioned her mischievously.
"Because I'm your best friend and you would tell me anything. Right?"
"Wrong but if you really want to know. You have ten questions about appearances and whatnot."
"Okay. Can I just guess names? It's easier," she said with puppy-dog eyes.
"Fine. But only three guesses then."
"Alright. Harry?"
Really? Harry? I thought with a bit of disgust. "No."
"Okay. How about Seamus?"
Ew...gross. No offense to him. "Nope."
"Okay last guess. Fred?"
"Uh...maybe," I stuttered, feeling the blush from earlier coming back.
"Ha ha. Bingo!" Izzi cried, jumping around the room in ecstasy.
"Whoa. Calm down. I only said maybe. And it's true. I don't know who I really like yet. Anyways I'm way too young to think about that type of stuff."
"Not really. You're twelve. You're not that young. And just for your information. He does like you back," Izzi said with an obvious look on her face.
"Does he now?" I say with a smirk on my face.
"Don't tell me you haven't noticed," she said with an exasperated tone.
"Notice what?" I said with a smile.
"Everything. The way he looks at you and talks with you and laughs with you."
"I don't know what you're talking about," I said. "Anyways. We have to get to class now," I added as I walked out of the room.
~~~ 4 Days Later ~~~
I was waiting on the quidditch field Monday evening for the tryouts to start. I was standing next to Izzi and another first year boy I didn't know. I was holding one of the school's cleansweep brooms that everyone else was holding.
Once the team captain of the Ravenclaw quidditch team, Sarah Ashwood, came onto the field, she allowed up to warm up by flying a few laps around the arena. I had to get used to the cleansweep for a second but then I was off as fast as the broom would take me.
Once the actual game started, it all went by in a blur. Since I was trying out for the seeker position, I played seeker most of the game. It was pretty fun playing quidditch though I did almost get knocked out by a bludger twice. But other than that I think I did pretty well. Izzi was also doing well as well as most of the other people except for a few that just didn't have what it took.
The match soon ended with my team in the lead. We were called down to the ground by Sarah and she talked to us about our progress and how well we did.
"Good job everyone. Most everybody has gotten the concepts of the game by the end and that's good. However some of you I think should stick to the ground for the time being," she said looking disappointed for the sake of the students. "I will post the list of people that got through tomorrow night and our first practice as a team will happen every Friday during last hour starting next week. For now, head back to your dormitories and get a good nights rest."
We all started walking back to the dormitories and I started talking to Izzi.
"Hey Izzi! How did tryouts go for you? Were they easy?"
"Yeah. It was more on the easier side partly because I practiced at my house over the summer."
"Nice. I think we'll be the only first years on the Ravenclaw team."
"I hope so," Izzi said smiling. "That would be awesome."
"Yeah wouldn't it?"
We arrived at the door of the Ravenclaw dorm and answered the question the door gave us. We walked inside and I decided to hit the shower before bed.
After my shower I was so tired that as soon as my head hit my pillow, I was asleep instantly.
~~~Next Morning~~~
I woke up and instantly remembered that quidditch positions were going to be posted that night. Since Izzi and I were so excited, classes seemed to fly by in no time at all. Soon I found myself in front of the paper, looking down the list. I soon found the seeker position and looked at the name. When I saw that it was mine, a huge smile spread across my face and I went out in search of Izzi to tell her the good news. As soon as u found her u ran up and hugged her.
"Guess what!?" I squealed. "I got the seeker position!"
"Yay! And I got one of the beater positions!"
"Is that what you wanted?" I asked still smiling.
"Yes! It's my favorite position," she relied.
"Sweet. Well should we go and celebrate? We are still on our free time."
"Sure. But let's go tell the boys first. They'd be eager to know."
"Sure. Let's go."
And off we went, laughing together as we walked down the hallway.
