The sun peeked above the horizon, shining light into Erica's room. It was Monday morning and it was time for her to get ready for school. She rolled out of bed and looked in the mirror. Staring back at her was someone she didn't even recognize. The reflection in the mirror had dark circles under her eyes caused by lack of sleep and a worried look everywhere. Erica could barely function that morning. She applied some under eye make-up to her dark ciclesand did the best she could to hide the look on her face. All weekend she wouldn't leave Josh's side in the hospital. It's all my fault, she thought. How could I do this to him? She's been racked with guilt ever since it happened no many how many times josh assured her it wasn't her fault. Erica didn't care how long it took and what the risks were, she will find out who did this to him.
She stood up and looked out her window. Fumbling her fingers, she slid the ring off her finger Josh gave her on the cruise. It was the first time she took it off since that day. The red jewel glistened in the light against the dark silver band. "I promise baby." she whisphered looking at the ring then back out the window. "I promise." She put the ring back on her finger, slinked her backpack over her shoulder and walked out the door. Isabella was walking towards her.
"Where were you all weekend? You just sort of disappeared. To busy having fun with Josh?"
"Erica didn't talk to anyone except her family, Josh's family and Josh. "Well I was with Josh, but we weren't really having fun."
"Why? What happened? You look exhausted and you just disappeared during the party."
"Josh and I went for a walk," Erica started out. She continued to tell Isabella the story of how they were hit over the head and how Josh was beat up and that she spent all weekend with him in the hosptial. "I don't care what it takes Bella, I will find out who did this."
"Even if it puts your's or his life in more danger?"
"His life couldn;t be in any more danger and right now I don't care about mine. I want justice and this person put away."
"But you can't danger yourself."
"I don't care!" Erica screamed. Isabella backed up; she knew not to mess with Erica when she was mad. "Sorry." she said, calming herself. "It's been a rough weekend and I haven;t gotten much sleep. I was uo all weekend with Josh and I've been worried."
"It's okay. I completely unerstand."
"Yea, it just sucks because he just made varisty and now he can't play."
"He's a figter. He'll be okay
"I know he is. Hey, I was going to visit him after school if you wanted to come."
"Yeah sure, I'll come."
"Thanks Bella." Erica walked to first period. She moaned when she saw John glaring at her. "What?" she asked him regrettingly.
"Veronica broke up with me at your party for Josh."
"Sorry John, but not everything was made to last forever."
"Well you and Josh seem to be doing fine." He was angry
"Yeah well we know how to give eachother space when its needed."
"I did that."
"That's not what Veronica said."
"You knew?"
"I didn't know until that night. I'm sorry." Unable to bear his complaining much longer, she blocked him out as he droned on and on. Just then, she flashed back to Friday night. John went for a walk shortly before her and Josh. What if John was the one to hit them because he was jealous of our relationship?
