'What does he have to say? Is it good or bad?' these are some of the thoughts that were racing through Erica's mind as she worried about Josh's text. She always went to the worst thing possible. She thought he hated her and wanted nothing to do with her. As she tries to fall asleep she thinks to herself 'this is hopeless. There's no way I can fall asleep. He doesn't like me. I can't face him tomorrow. It's pointless.' All she wanted to do was tell Isabebella, but she went to bed an hour ago.
While wondering, she manages to drift off into a peaceful sleep around two-thirty in the morning only to be awakened by her alarm a short four hours later. As she tiredly gets out of bed, she opens her blinds to see the sun peeking out of it's shell, shining light upon everything. That's when she gets out of bed in a hurry, gets ready and rushes to the door to make her ten step journey to Isabella's.
Isabella comes out with a smile on her face to see Erica in a slight panic from the text. As they make their way to what some call "the drama filled hell" high school, Isabella asks "So why do you look panicked? Did you and Josh text last night?"
"Well I really wouldn't say that." she replied cautiously.
"What so you mean?" Isabella asked now with confusion spreading across her face.
"Well he texted me this." Erica gave Isabella her phone. As she read the words on the screen she looked at Erica with sorry eyes. "Well that could mean anything. Good or bad." They finally arrived at school.
"I don't thi-" Erica was cut off by the bell as always. They said their goodbyes and parted ways. Morning classes were a breeze. The teachers basically let their students do anything because it was the second day and they had nothing to teach.
Third period came all to quickly. Erica has been dreading it since last night as soon as she read the text. She had absolutley no idea what to expect and she didn't want to be caught off guard.
Same as her other teachers, Mr. Simon had nothing prepared. Erica looked from the corner of her eye to see Josh go over to Darren to talk. She believes about the text. That's when she started to look down, doodle in her notebook and try to make no eye contact at all with Josh. She had prepared herself for the worst to happen so she wouldn't be as hurt when it did. The class was sort of quiet so she tried her best to listen in on their conversation.
"Did you get my text last night?" Josh started.
"No, why? Was it important?" he answered.
"Uh... Kinda bro."
"Check your phone, maybe it just didn't send."
Josh patted his pockets frantically to find his phone, eager to see if his message sent and if so to who if not Darren. He hoped it wouldn't be Erica. Josh's eyes looked as if they were going to pop put of his head with expression of fear and shock written everywhere. His hopes were destroyed as he sat there blankly staring at the phone and to seen Erica's name above the text meant for Darren.
A few minutes had past when Josh realized he should probably say something to Erica. He stands up and starts to walk over to her. She sees him coming and continues to draw.
"Erica, can I please ask you somethjng? It's important." he asked pleadingly.
"Um.. Yeah sure I guess." This was it. The moment of truth. What she had been dreading yet anxiously awaiting to see if it was good or bad. All she wanted to know was which was it.
"Did you get a text from me last night?"
"....yes..."
"Look. Please don't think I hate you or that that text was me talking bad about you."
'Too late' she thought. "Well, then are you saying it was good news?"
"The text was meant for Darren. I kind of wanted to tell him... that I.. uh... like you. Alot."
"Really?" Erica was overfilled with excitement.
"Yeah... I just want to know one thing."
"Which is?"
"Do you feel the same way about me?"
"Eh I don't know." she said convincingly.
"Oh..." he looked upset.
"I'm just messing with you Josh. Of course I feel the same way."
"Then if that's true, can I ask you something?"
"Sure."
"Will you go out with me?"
"Duh!" she said beeaming with excitement as she pulled him into a hug. He was so strong. She loved the feeling of his arms around her. She felt as though standing at the edge of a cliff when she felt him pull away and have their lips meet. And yet somehow she had never felt safer in the whole world. It was light and gentle, passioniate. Nothing has ever felt better and more perfect to her than that. A sensation went through her body and chills were sent down her spine. As if afraid she would let go, Josh squeezed her just a little tighter, never wanting her to leave. The whole class saw and all said "Aw!" espcecially Darren, and Abigail. Michael sat there though, staring not knowing what to say or how to react. He seemed in shock, yet hurt.
Soon, Josh pulled away but wouldn't let go of her. The two of them were smiling and laughing from the class's reaction but yet wouldn't take their eyes off of eachother. Josh wanted to keep her in his arms forever and that was alright with Erica.
That's when the bell rang and he had to have her leave. She was so eager to get to lunch and tell her friends what had happened. Better yet she wanted to get to math to tell Isabella. Josh took Erica's hand in his and walked her to her locker. Erica ran into lunch so eager and giddy. She ran over to Alex who was the only one at the table.
"What are you so hally about?" he asked with confusiom written all over his face.
"You will not believe what happened last period!"
"What?!" he said dying to know.
"Josh asked me out!" she was screaming and Abigail came in screaming as well.
"Don't forget the fact that he kissed you also." Abigail said, first hugging Erica than sitting down. She was so happy for her friend. On the other hand, Alex was just sitting there as quiet as a mouse not saying anything. Erica wondered what was wrong. She than thought of something that might cheer him up. In a few days was Akex's birthday and she made him a bracelet but couldn't wait to give it to him. She pulled it out of her pocket.
"Alex, I have something for you."
"What is it?" he asked, emotionless.
"I was going to give it to you on your birthday but I couldn't wait any longer." Erica put it on his wrist and his face lit up like a little kid's face on Christmas morning. It was purple and in white letters it read "Alex".
"Wow. Thank you. I love it!" Alex saod so happy and filled with joy. She hugged him in return and he lit up even more.
Fourth period ended quickly and Erica had to run to math to tell Isabella everything. She hugged her friends goodbye and Alex hugged her a little longer as if to say 'thanks again'. She managed to cheer him up for now but it wouldn't last for long.
