That next day in school Erica had to say something to Michael.
First and second period droned on but third actually finally came. Erica hurried herself to make it to third period. She knew if she didn't ask now, she wouldn't do it later. It had to happen now.
Finally, Michael walked in. Erica stood up and blocked his desk. "What Erica?" He asked with an attitude.
"What the hell is wrong with you?"
"What are you talking about?"
"Oh sorry, let me rephrase that. What the hell isn't wrong with you?"
"I honestly have no idea what you're talking about though."
Michael did sound really confused, but Erica didn't buy it. He's played that on her before. "You're an asshole. Josh was your best friend. How could you put him in the hospital? Your twisted, you know that?"
"What are you going to do about it? He deserves it because he took you away from me."
"Michael, we would never be together anyway. You're a douche bag and I hope you rot in hell. Have a horrible life." Saying that to Michael made Erica feel so much better. He practically just admitted it to her that it was him. After catching her breath, she sat down and listened to Mr. Simon talk about some book that they were reading for the period.
During lunch, Erica went straight to the table to tell Abigail and Alex what happened. "What was up with you and Michael during English?" Looks like Abigail beat her to the punch.
"I accused him of what happened to Josh and he practically admitted it. He didn't say it was him but I didn't even say what happened and Michael claimed that Josh deserved it because he took me away from Michael."
"Wait, but you never even liked Michael. You would never even be with him."
"Try telling him that."
"So you found out who sent you the texts?" Alex asked with a sudden spark of interest in the matter.
"Yeah from what I can gather, it's Michael. I'm going to see Josh after school today and tell him what happened an that Michael is who we really were looking for."
"Wait a second," Alex was concerned. "Didn't Michael pass the lie detector test when you asked if he was the one?"
"Yeah true but he could've figured out the way around it."
"Do you want me to go with you to see Michael?" Abigail asked.
"That'd be great."
Alex looks around and moved his hands from the table. Out of the corner of Erica's eye, she notice that Alex had lost his bracelet she made him. "Alex where's your bracelet," She asked.
"That's a great question. I don't know. I woke up this morning and it was gone. My window was also open and I don't sleep with it open.
"That's really strange."
"I'm sorry Erica. I know you worked so hard on it."
"It's perfectly fine. I could always make you another one if you want."
"I would love that. Thanks."
"No problem."
Abigail shot Erica a look. The look like why would you do that? Don't you think it's weird how someone would take the bracelet and his window was open? "Alex," Abigail started, "did you tell your parents that your bracelet is missing and that your window somehow just opened in the middle of the night?"
"No I didn't. I didn't think it really mattered. Besides, what are my parents going to do about it?"
"Eh I guess you're right, but it's still a little strange."
"Whatever. It doesn't really matter, and besides I don't care about loosing the bracelet. It wasn't that hard to make." Erica said. That sentence for some reason left the air feeling thick and heavy. No one decided to speak for the period after that.
**********
During math, Erica decided to tell everyone what had happened with Michael. By everyone, she told Isabella, Mark, Veronica and Phoebe. She left John out and he was on the other side of the room anyway.
"That bastard." Mark said. He can get very feisty when he's angry, plus for Phoebe.
"I can't believe he would do that. We all know he has anger issues but why go so far as to hurt your best friend?" Veronica commented.
"We'll he isn't technically his best friend anymore." Phoebe commented.
"Whatever. You know what I mean. It's still not right."
"Right or not, I'm going to beat the shit out of him and he knows I can do that."
"We all know you can do that Erica." Mark smirked.
From across the room they heard a slight giggle. Veronica shifted in her seat to see John laughing at himself. Or he overheard their conversation. Either way he shouldn't be laughing, John also knows that Erica can beat the shit out of anyone who crosses her. "So what are you going to do?" She said shifting back in we seat.
"Before I go to see Josh after school today, I'm going to head back to the alley where we were and see if there is anything that w can pick up on and see if we can prove it was Michael."
"Sounds like a good idea. Once you find something, he can't deny it." Isabella finally added into the conversation.
"Exactly."
By the time math was over, Erica just wanted the day to end so she could get back to the alley. Science and gym she knew would go by fast but social studies is the death of her.
There she sat in social studies with ten minutes left in the period. Her head looked to the left and she was staring at the empty desk where Josh once sat and once will again. She looked back down at the ring that glimmered on her finger, "I promise," she whispered "I promise."
After what felt like an eternity, the ending bell finally rang an Erica met up with Abigail outside the front doors of the school. "Do you mind if we stop by the alley where we were attacked? I want to see if I can find something to prove Michael was the one who attacked us."
"No I don't mind."
"Awesome it's only a block away from the hospital."
"Okay let's go then."
They talked about nonsense on the way to the alley just like most girls do when they are with their friends. Before they both knew it, they were at the alley. The sight brought a pain to Erica's chest but she just ignored it and started to look around, especially by the chair that was still there where Josh was tied down.
She gasped. "What?" Abigail asked as she hurried over.
Without saying a word, Erica bent down to the crumbled gravel that crunched slowly under her feet. Slowly, she picked up a white a purple bracelet and silently read to herself what it said. It spelt out the familiar name 'Alex'.
