Scarlett
It happened so fast. Around 2:30 the next day, I found my body going through the motions of dialing 911 and telling the operator of Trey's location. Then, I ran, but I didn't make it far. The cops got me.

Trey
After passing out from hunger, I wake up in the hospital with machines attached to me. My mother is by my side praying in fever.

"Ma?" I whisper.

She lifts her head up and claspes my hands into hers.

"You're okay now, baby. You're okay." She says with tears running down her face.

I nod and drift off to sleep again. I wake up again at night. My mom fell asleep on the couch. I turn my head to check the time. 8pm. Wow... So Scarlett wasn't lying. I hear my door open a couple of low voices talking as they walk in.

My homies, Dwayne, Chris, and August come in with smiles. They all give me brotherly hugs and welcome homes. I'm so glad to see them that tears brim my eyes. What if I died, God?

They ask me how I feel.

"Tired, but happy as ever to be out of that hellhole." I reply with a sigh.

"What did they do to you, man?" August asks.

I shrug,"Starved me, beat me, kept me in a dark room with no running water to shower.... The worst."

They shake their heads in pity.

"We got you, man. We gotta look out for each other." Dwayne says.

Chris looks at the clipboard hanging from my bed.

"You lost like 50 pounds... Damn." Chris says under his breath.

"They're not letting you leave until you gain at least half of it back." Dwayne says.

"I'd rather be here than in the other place." I reply quite honestly.

"Everyone is so happy that you're safe and back. You don't know how many phone calls your family has been getting. Expect a lot of visits."

I'm hoping one of them is...Liberty.

"Do you think Liberty would come?" I ask.

"We don't know, man. We don't. She knows what happened though."

I sigh and close my eyes and remember the hellish week I just had. What I need right now is some good loving and a good meal. The friends leave me alone and talk quietly amongst themselves.

"You're so thin." The voice says.

The voice is crying. A warm hand holds my hand then runs up my arm. I want to open my eyes, but they're so heavy. Come on! Open! I feel the breath of the person on my neck, then they kiss my cheek. The wetness from their face rubs off on my cheek.

My eyes blink open and I'm face to face with her. Our faces so close, we can kiss. She breaks down after a couple of seconds and weeps into my chest. I touch her face and her back, then rub my fingers through her hair. She's so dang perfect to me.

"Never do that to me again. Never," she commands while crying.

"I won't, baby. I'm sorry." I reply.

I lift her chin up and look into her beautiful brown eyes that glistened with tears.

"I'll never let you go. I love you."

I lean in and kiss her plump lips that are begging to be kissed. She kisses me back hungrily before pulling back briefly.

"Trey." She sighs.

"Liberty."
