Liberty
Trey lurches forward as he empties the contents of his stomach into the small, pink hospital bucket. It's not like he's been eating much for him to throw up. The nurses say that this is normal since he hasn't been getting all the nutrients necessary so his body is just readjusting.
After his episode, he plops back onto the pillow and groans. I grab the cup of water and hold it to his lips.
"Drink," I bade him.
He opens his mouth a little and sips the water. He turns his head to the side when he finishes and a bit of water spills on his neck. I wipe it off with a napkin and throw it away. He closes his eyes again and rests.
I stare at his face and notice how gaunt it looks. He's lost so much weight. I just wonder if he'll be the same Trey when he's back to normal. His mother and father walk into the room chatting quietly and smile when they see me.
I met them for the first time when I came here yesterday evening. They were a bit perplexed because I guess Trey never talked about me to them. I frowned a bit.
"Wait, you must be the girl Trey was so upset about for weeks." His father says.
"....I wouldn't call it upset." I say.
"No. I know my son. He was very upset. With you here, he may get better faster."
I blush and chuckle.
Fast forwarding to this moment, I feel restless. I've been sitting here for hours.
"Why don't you take a walk or go visit your friends?," Trey's mom suggests,"It can get a little claustrophobic in here."
"Okay. Thank you." I say while slowly getting up.
I kiss Trey's forehead before grabbing my purse and turning to leave. There's a sparkle in his parents' eyes when they look at me.
"I'll be back in soon,"I say before leaving.
Gabby and Rih nearly jump on top of me when I enter their apartment.
"Bad ones!" I squeal.
"Libby!" They yell.
They both attack me with questions as I walk towards the couch.
"Oh my gosh. Slow down guys." I say with my hands up.
"Sooooo..... What happened?" Rih asks first.
I sit on the couch and kick off my shoes.
"I took a train from CT to DC as soon as I finished my exams. I couldn't believe that they found him when I was three hours out. I cried right then and there on the train, and cried even more when I finally saw him." I reply honestly.
"Aww. Girl, you're in love with him." Gabby states.
"It's something like that." I say with a laugh.
"School's about to be over so y'all can finally try to be a real couple. No one to try and stop ya because they're in jail now." Rih says.
"IF we plan on getting together again, I would definitely want to take it slow. We got into it too fast the first time and feelings were hurt." I say.
"But now it's obvious that you two were meant to be together despite all of that." Says Gabby.
"Let's just face it: that is ya man, Liberty. Stop frontin'!"
"Okay! That's MY man." I say proudly.
After hanging out with my friends for a while, I head back to the hospital with new energy. Trey is showering with the assistance of a nurse when I return. His parents decided to call it a night when I came back.
"We'll be back early tomorrow morning again." They say.
"Okay. I'll keep an eye out for him and alert you guys of anything. Have a good night." I say.
"You're such a nice girl. Good night, sweetie." Trey's mom says with a genuine smile.
I can't help but smile back. As soon as the door closes behind them, Trey awakes, scaring the crap out of me.
"Did I scare you?" He asks with a weak smile.
"Ugh, you're so aggy Trey. You were awake this whole time?"
"Yeah, I was waiting for my parents to leave so we can talk."
"Okay, let's talk." I say sitting forward.
