Trey
As I turn to the board to write something, one of my female students, Hazel, raises her hand. She obviously has a crush on me along with the other 5 females in the class who stare at me as if I'm a piece of meat.

"You have a question, Ms. Rockwell?" I say while turning to her.

"Yes. I'm having a little difficulty understanding number three. Can you explain it?" She asks.

Not wanting to waste any class time, I say

"See me after class."

She beams at my response and says,"Okay."

I walk down the aisles to pass back the papers I graded over the weekend.

"These grades are as is. No make ups or retakes. If you do not like you grade, email me and I can work out some extra credit for you." I announce.

Many people frown and huff and puff once they receive their papers. I'm still a hard grader, can't change that. Once class is dismissed, most of my students rush out. A couple of the girls who like me linger to say good bye. Sometimes I wish that I was ugly.

At last, it's only Hazel and I in the classroom. I sit on the chair and look at her so that she knows I'm ready. She comes and sits on top of my desk right next to me. She's wearing a short skirt so she can expose a little something something down below. I sigh and prop my head on the desk with my hand.

"What did you need help with?" I ask.

"This," she replies while pointing to a question on her paper.

I look at it and try to think of a way to explain it to her.

"Sorry to bother you. I bet your girlfriend must be waiting for you or something."

I chuckle. Oldest move in the book.

"I'd like to keep my private life private. Now, this question..."
-----
Ten minutes later
"Oh! Okay! I get it now." Hazel says.

Finally. I know she was playing dumb this whole time.

"Thank you so much, Mr. Neverson." She says while getting off the desk.

I sigh in relief. I stand up and grab my coat in suitcase. I look up to see that Hazel is waiting for me at the door.

"Don't you have something to do?" I ask her once I stop at the door.

"No..." She replies,"I just thought that we could walk out together."

I shrug and walk out the door with her right at my heels. She doesn't say a word as we walk down the hallway. Maybe a little nervous. We walk outside to the cold afternoon March air.

"See you next class." I tell her with a wave and then walk to the parking lot.

"Bye." She says.

I feel her stare on my back as I make my way towards my car. I can't deal with these crushes. From a couple yards ahead of my car, I spot Monte and...Krissy? What the heck? Krissy slaps Monte across the face which earns her a punch from Monte. Oh shoot.

I quickly get out of my car and run to the scene where Monte stands over Krissy and curses her out. Krissy holds the side of her face and cries.

"You want another aśs whooping man?" I ask while jogging up to them.

Monte looks up surprised, but once he seems me, his squints his eyes but backs away from Krissy.

"I'll talk to you later." He says and walks away.

What am I doing? I help Krissy up and lead her to my car. It's only as we walk do I notice the slight swell of her stomach through her sweater. I have so many questions. I give her a box of napkins so that she can wipe her face. Her eye is already beginning to swell.

"How do you know Monte?" I ask.

"Through Scarlett(Trey's ex gf). She bought him around sometimes." She mumbles.

"The what was all that about?" I question.

She glances at me then back at her hands.

"Before I explain, I just want you to know I'm sorry for everything that you're about to hear. I was ignorant and selfish."

"I forgive you. Just tell me."

"Monte, Scarlett, and I made a deal. I was to go to you to sleep with you and to try to get pregnant for 5 grand. Basically just to mess up your life..." She says.

She looks at the palms of her hands in shame as tears run down her face.

"I'm so sorry." She whispers.

"So you planned this crap with the two people I don't like the most?" I ask calmly.

"I was mad at you for years Trey. I was trying to get back at you. I was stupid." She explains.

I let out a heavy sigh and look at her a little while longer. I should hate her. It's taking me all my being not to lash out on her and kick her out my car.

"What you did was wrong, but I'm gonna move past that. Why were you and Monte arguing though?"

"He doesn't want to claim his child. We messed around a lot so this is his baby. I know it's his because he's the only one besides you."

I kind of feel sorry for her.

"Even if Monte doesn't want to step up and be a man, you need to be a role model for your unborn child. Stop fooling around and get serious. Monte could've hurt you even more. Do you really want him to be around your kid?"

She hesitates before saying,"I guess not, but what am I gonna do?! Raising a child on my own?"

"You'll have the support of your family and friends...and me. It's gonna be hard, but it's worth it. Don't go chasing after no man, Krissy."

"No man wants me." She chuckles.

"You're a very attractive woman with a good head on her shoulders and a stable job. What man doesn't want that?"

"95% of guys these days"

"Excluding me." I butt in.

She laughs and says,"Excluding you."

"Did you drive here?" I ask her.

"No. I took the train and Monte picked me up."

"I'll take you to the train station then." I say,"And I'll buy you an ice pack for your eye."

I swing by the pharmacy and buy her an ice pack for her swelling eye. As I drive her to the station we talk a bit more. We settle our differences.

"I don't even talk to Scarlett anymore, and best believe I'm done with Monte."

"Be good to yourself." I tell her as she gets out of the car.

"Bye and thank you, Trey." She tells me.

I watch her walk into the station before driving away. With this news, I have more courage to get Liberty back. Best believe I'm getting my woman back.
