Liberty's POV
I take a sip of the coffee I ordered, and almost spit it out onto my open British Literature textbook.
This campus cafe's coffee tastes gross today. I don't know what it is. Should've went to the Starbucks in the student center on campus. I pick up me cup and stare at the leaping bison on the cup, contemplating why it's so gross.
"Coffee cup that interesting?" Someone asks out of nowhere in front of me.
I jump a little and look in the direction of the voice. I roll my eyes in annoyance because it's Monte. It's been three weeks and he still bothers me.
"Bye." I tell him and return to my textbook.
He doesn't leave but stands there and silently watch me. I'm going to explode if Jesus does not hold me back.
"Can you like...go away?" I ask sarcastically.
He pulls out the seat in front of me and sits himself down. I peer up at him and scowl. I can't front though, he still looks good.
"You're still mad at me, baby?" He asks me trying to be sweet.
I'm not falling for his schemes.
"Yes, Monte. I'm still mad. I'm gonna be mad for a while. Leave me alone."
"Libby, please.." He begs. Did he really use my nickname?
I shake my head.
My voice shaking, I say,"Monte, you hurt me to the core. I can't-"
"I know baby and I'm sorry. Please, give me another chance."
I think about it for a moment, then Trey comes to mind.
"No, Monte," I say firmly.
He clenches his fists as he holds back his anger. Monte is not the one to beg for anything or anyone. Pride=gone.
"Is there a problem here, Liberty?"
Monte and I both turn our heads to see Trey standing there with a cup of coffee in one hand and his briefcase in another. I bite my tongue and say,
"No. I was just about to leave." I say and grab my stuff.
Monte grabs my arm as I walk past him and pulls me towards him. Trey doesn't notice because he has his back towards us. It happens so quick. He leans into my ear and whispers,
"I won't stop until I get you back."
He lets go and I stumble forward. Monte's statement sends chills down my spine. Trey turns and gives me a weird look that says" Are you okay?" Embarrassed, I turn and walk out of the cafe with Trey in my pursuit.
"Liberty, wait up!" Trey calls.
I stop, turn, and wait for him to catch up. My head is gonna explode. He grabs me and pulls me in for a hug which calms me down a bit.
"Are you okay? Who was that?" He asks while looking at my face.
Trey's POV
I take Liberty into my arms and hug her. She looks shook. The dude that was talking to her looked pretty familiar. Like I've seen him somewhere else.
"Are you okay?," I ask her," Who was that?"
I stare at her face as she comes up with a response.
"I'm not okay, and that was my ex-boyfriend, Monte." She blurts.
"What did he say to make you so upset, baby girl?" I ask with concern.
She shifts her heavy book from one side to the other. I guess I should help her. I one last sip of my gross coffee before trashing it. I guess I made a weird face because she begins to laugh.
"Come on girl, tell me why you sad." I say while taking her textbook.
She gets serious again and says, "I think he's going stalker crazy."
Oh. This is serious.
"He told he he won't stop until he gets me back. I'm just scared."
I guess I'm gonna have to fight a man. She's not safe on campus. She can't live here with someone stalking her.
"You can't stay here, baby. Do you know anyone else who lives on campus that Monte doesn't know?"
She shakes her head. Oh crap. I guess that leaves one person. Me.
"I guess you can stay with me for a while..."
Her eyes widen.
"Really? You wouldn't mind?"
"Of course not. I care about you, liberty."
She blushes and smiles. No time for cute moments.
"Let's go get some of your stuff, and bring them to my house." I tell her.
We pace over to her apartment and alert Gabrielle of the situation. Rih isn't present so she'll have to find out later. I help Liberty pack a suitcase and duffle bag.
"Let's go." I tell her while grabbing her suitcase.
Liberty's POV
Trey grabs my suitcase and leaves my apartment. I turn and give Gabrielle a hug.
"Don't worry about me," I tell her," I'll be okay."
"Alright. Be careful." She tells me with a wink.
In the car, I get situated and put on my seat belt.
"What took so long?" Trey asks a little pissed.
"Had to say goodbye."
Trey grabs my hand and intertwines his fingers in mine. It feels like the most natural thing. He will make such an amazing husband and father. I calm down a bit as we drive off.
"Scared?" He asks.
"Not anymore."
