Chapter 1

Hailey's P.o.v.

"Listen to me baby. Keep James safe. Please. Keep your little brother safe." My mom says handing me a gun.

"Mom...I can't." I say holding the gun in my shaky hands.

"You have to. I dont want to become one of them. I can't."

The air was steady. The crying of my little brother probably could be heard from miles. We are safe in the woods for now, until the heard catches up with us.

"I love you Mom." I say pointing the gun to her head. I didn't want to, but I had to. In a matter of seconds my mom was gone. James crawled over to me and rested his head on my lap.

"Is Mommy in a better place now?" He asks sniffling.

"Yes baby boy she is."

The moment of silence didn't last long. The walkers, what we call them, cought up to us. I pick James up quickly and grab our bags. I keep running and running. I finally stopped. I looked around. We're in the city. I squint my eyes as I look around.

"Look sissy there's a guy." James points out. I squint my eyes even more. There is a guy, and alot of walkers are after him.

Should I go help him? Or not?

Before I could make a decision a pair of hands grabbed my little brother and I. I quickly turned around ready to shoot this son of a bitch in the head.

"Woah woah! Not dead!" The guy screams, he looks Asian. He had a baseball cap and a pizzeria shirt on.

"You need to go save that man!" I scream putting my gun away.

"I was, but I saw the little boy and I just had to save him."

I sigh as I look around. We seem to be in an ally.

"I want you guys to stay here. I'll be back." The man opens the gate but quickly shut it once he got out.

"Hey James. Are you okay?" I ask picking him up.

"Yeah." He nods. I kiss his head and smile.

"I love you." I tell him.

"I love you too, sissy."

It wasn't long before that guy came back. He quickly shut the gate. He saved that guy.

"Let's go."

We started running down the ally way. All of a sudden I hear something snap. I turn around.

"Oh God! They busted through the gate!" I scream. James starts crying as they get closer. The Asian guy leads us up a ladder. I grab James hand as soon as we got on the roof.

"Name is Glenn by the way." The Asian guy says.

"Hailey, and this is James." I introduce us.

"I'm Rick." The guy who Glenn saved said. Glenn led us over a couple more roofs. Then, we went down a ladder. It led to a building. The doors opened and we ran in.

"Do you know what the fuck you just did!?" A blonde woman screams pinning Rick up against boxes.

"Those gun shots could have been heard from miles. You practically ran the damn dinner bell!" She screams pointing her gun at his face.

"Woah Andrea! He did what he had to do!" Glenn screams. Andrea lets out a sigh before letting Rick go.

"By the way the safty was on." Rick says.

All of a sudden we heard screaming and shooting.

"Shit Dixon!"

They all began to run up a staircase. Who the hell is Dixon? I followed them up the staircase. It leads me to the roof of that building.
