Too far gone- Part 2 out of 2

"How much longer?" James whines. We've been walking for awhile, honestly I'm not stopping. I need to find Carl, I need to know that he's alive.

"Sissy!" James calls. I stop and look at him. "Can we please stop?" He asks.

"We need to find the others. Michonne said to stay in this area and she will come and find us." I tell him.

"We need to stop and rest-"

"No James! We need to find our family and soon, I need to find out if Carl is alive. Wouldn't you want to know too?" I snap. I've never snapped on him like that before, well except that one time at the prison.

"Yes, but it's going to get dark soon and I don't want to be out here."

I sigh and look up at the sky, by the looks of it, it's going to rain.

"You're right lets find somewhere."

"Hailey?" James asks following behind me. "Yeah?"

"What did you mean back there, when you killed dad? When you said he's not who I thought he was?"

Great. I can't tell him, not now...not after Hershal. Oh my gosh, he doesn't know about Hershal. I stop in the middle of the road.

I can't tell him, not here at least.

"We will talk about it later okay?"
"When we find Hershal and them?" He asks. I close my eyes. "Y-Yeah."

"Sis are you okay?"

I open my eyes and wipe the tears ready to fall then turn around.

"Just missing Carl."

James frowns, "We will find them, all of them." he assures me.
"We will." I say. "Now c'mon."

·~·An hour later·~·

James and I woundered into the woods because we saw footprints. I'm starting to regret it because it's getting darker and it's about to rain.

"Any luck?" He asks sitting under a tree. I stand up and rub the dirt off my jeans. I just got done picking berries from a bush. I nod and hand four to him, I eat the other four. I pop one into my mouth as I sit next to him. James takes one and eats it slowly, savoring the taste. I look at him and frown.

"All I wanted was a place to protect you. A place...where we could live." I say.

"The farm failed us and so did the prison. Back at the farm, when Glenn told us about the barn I wanted to leave." I tell James. He stops eating and looks at me.

"I didn't think it was a safe and for some God damn reason...I-I thought anywhere else was safer. Carl talked me into staying, he told me no place is safe we have to make it safe."

"And we did, we made the farm safe and we made the prison safe. But it didn't last long a-and I think now I realize thats what I wanted. Something that...something that lasted forever. I wanted to keep you safe and alive that my eyes weren't fully open."

"We aren't safe, no where is safe. No matter what anyone tells you. We are not safe." I say. James noded. "I understand."

We sat in silence and let the darkness over come us. It was quiet out and peaceful. James layed his head on my lap and I layed my head against the tree.

"We need to find the others for fucks-"

"Shh...there could be walkers."

Those voices sounded familiar. I quickly stand up and so does James. The breaking of branches come closer so I pull my gun out and just as I did, the tip of my gun met someones face.
