Prologue

I walked into her room, it was dark except for a few candles lit in a circle. The smell of incense entered my nose, and small whispers echoed through the room, so quietly you couldn't make out what you were hearing. She walked in from the bathroom in her special ritual robe, she smiled at me as she moved into the circle.

“You must join me this time, Lufian.” she addressed.

“You never allowed me before.” I replied. She gestured me over with her hand.

“This time, you have to see her.” she protested. I slowly inched myself closer.

“Her?” I asked. There was a girl involved. The many times my mother has tried to set me up with girls because she thought I needed someone to be with. But I never was impressed by any of the women she presented. “Mom, please tell me this isn't another one of you're set ups.” I begged. She chuckled.

“Just watch.” she instructed. I finally gave in and sat next to her in the circle. She dipped her fingers into a bowl of liquid and pressed her fingers to her heart. The whispers in the room got louder. “Please show us, show us her. The girl who will change everything.” she asked in a whisper. The whispers around us became voices, getting louder and louder until a light shot up from the bowl of liquid into the air. A circle formed, and I saw pictures. A girl, with dark brown hair smiling. She was so beautiful I held in my breath.

“Who is she?” I asked.

“Her name is Beverly.” my mom answered.

“How old is she?” I asked.

“Right now, she is two years old. This is her when she's 19.” she explained.

“I need to know her.” I insisted. I couldn't take my eyes off her smiling face.

“There's a problem, Lufian.” she interrupted my stares.

“What?” I asked.

“She will love another.” she explained. I looked at her, no that can't happen.

“What?! No, I know for a fact that she is the one for me.” I protested. She smiled and shook her head.

“His name is Chance, he's the half blood, Edric's son.”

“THE Chance Bassett, the one everyone member of the royals wants to kill because of how dangerous his blood is? He is going to be the one she loves?” I asked. She nodded.

“They were meant for each other, the spirits have foreseen it. Unless, you can change their destiny.”

“How?” I asked.

“You love her already, and in time that love will grow to be stronger. When everything seems to go wrong for her you will be her savior, and she will come to love you as well. But you will be faced with obstacles on your path of having her for all eternity.” she explained.

“I'll be alright. I'll overcome those obstacles. For her.” I responded. My mother was silent. I just watched the girl smile, laugh, cry. “Can I watch her grow up with you?” I asked. She nodded.

“I can't really keep you away, so, yes.” she answered. I just watched Beverly in the pictures. “She's the one, Lufian.”
