Ronin unlocked the door to the sanctum, and we went down the staircase before the door closed. We had a policy about secrecy. We rushed into the main room, it was dark and cold, and really depressing, except for the deep red couch and desk in the corner. I always wondered why they got that couch red. Did they just want to tease themselves about how it looks like blood, or did it stain from all the 'experiences' they have had down here. The thought made me shiver. Chance came out of the back room not even looking at me, he took my bag and disappeared into the back room and came back in mili-seconds with an empty hand. Ronin went to the desk, opened a drawer, and pulled out a roll of wire. Our markers.
"I'm going to spread these markers around this area. If a vampire crosses them, we'll know." he disappeared. It's true, these markers are dipped in vampire blood, so if a human trips it, it doesn't send a jolt, but when a vampire does, it's like the blood can detect it so it sends a jolt of energy to our monitor in here. I helped out a lot down here, even as a human. That's why I was able to get in and out safely, I was human...now I'm not. Chance was rearranging things, and I could taste his strangeness. He wasn't usually like this. He hasn't looked at me in hours.
"Are you going to look at me at all?" I asked. He sighed then looked at me. "What is your problem today?" I asked, my tone was annoyed, which I was. He sighed again.
"I-I-nothing." he hesitated. I walked up to him lightly putting my hands on his shoulders.
"What?" I asked softer. He pulled away.
"Nothing!" he snapped. Okay, that never happens.
"Obviously there is something wrong! What did I do?!" I yelled.
"Became a vampire!" he finally spat out. I stood there shocked.
"You think I did this on purpose?! I was ambushed when you should've been there with me! I was forced into this! I couldn't prevent it with how weak I was!" I screeched. He threw his arms in the air.
"I know! I should've been there! But I wasn't! And I hate myself for it! I could've of saved you! And now you're a monster! Like me!" he yelled back. We were in each other's faces.
"So what! You don't love me anymore just because I'm like you!" I snapped. "What the hell!" I freaked. How could he not love me anymore because I was forced to be one of them! That's just bogus!
"Yes!" he answered. I stopped dead in my tracks. Did he just say...
"You don't love me anymore?" I asked in more of a choked whisper. He shook his head.
"I can't, I don't know why, I ust can't love you anymore Beverly. I just don't feel that way when I look at you anymore." he explained.
"W-what about last night?" referring to his confession of love for me. How could he break my heart so soon?! He looked away when he saw my tears start to come, more red tears.
"I'm sorry." he barely whispered out. The tears were fowing like crazy by now. I pulled them back. I backed towards the door.
"I can't believe you did this to me again." I sniffled before I ran up the stairs and out of the sanctum door, into the cemetery. Ronin caught sight of me, but he was too far.
"Bev, what's wrong?" he asked. I turned away and used my inhuman speed to run away. I never wanted to see Chance again, I didn't care if I died in the sun. Which I could smell was on it's way up. I was in the woods hoping for some shade away from the sun when a scent hit me.
"Beverly." I turned around to a face I though I would never see again.
"Kieyera?" I questioned. I was truly shocked. She smiled.
"Yeah, it's me." she said.
"B-but, you're dead." I stated, okay that sounded cheesy, but my mind isn't exactly in sync rigth now. She nodded.
"I was." she stated.
"How-?"
"A secret. But that doesn't matter, I'm back. I missed you." she seemed normal Kieyera to me. So I hugged her tightly. Which was easy since I was super strong.
"Kieyera, I missed you too." I cried into her shoulder, staining her blue jacket.
"What did Chance do?" she asked.
"How did you know it was Chance?" I asked. She laughed.
"I knew he came back for a while. And I knew he still loved you, but it looks like he hurt you again." she explained. I choked a cry-laugh, which made the sobs come harder.
"He said he couldn't love me if I was a vampire, a monster were his exact words. That he couldn't look at me the same way." I sobbed. She patted my hair.
"Shhhh, it's okay. He's stupid. He thinks since he's half human he needs a human to make his humanity come back, I guess when he lost the one human he loved to an eternity of darkness he just doesn't know how to handle it." she explained.
"How do you know all of this?" I asked.
"Chance and I spent a lot of time traveling on missions as partners when we were early to Ronin's society. Ronin wanted us to stay together to start. I got to know him well. He hates being half vampire, so he wants to hold onto the human part of him, and by that he wants the love of his life to be human, when he met you he knew it was meant to be. He was never attracted to vampire girls, I guess since you are now a vampire, he lets his nature and need for humanity to cloud his heart." she explained. I sniffled.
"I hate him." I stated. "I never will love him again. I promise you that! I will never feel any affection, compassion, or love towards him." I said. And it was like a ligth switch, I switched it off. I didn't feel any pain when I though of him, and the tears dried instantly. "What the-"
"Vampire emotional trick. Once you've decided on what your feelings towards that person, it's done. You can change them of course, but most don't because they don't feel like they have to." she interrupted, already knowing what I was talking about.
"Oh, cool." I said, wiping the evidence of tears on my face, then I noticed the stains on her jacket. "Oh, I'm sorry, you're jacket." I gestured. She flipped it off revealing just a black tank top that really toned her perfect figure. I was always jealous of her body. I also just noticed she wore booty shorts. With the jacket it all looked fabulous, now with the jacket off, it looked like she was too bare, even though it made her look good anyway, I wish I could pull that off.
"No worries. Come on, I'll show you my place." she grabbed my hand.
"Why didn't you tell anybody else about you surviving?" I asked.
"I don't work for Ronin anymore. I have my own work force. And you can stay with us." we started running then. I started to smell the sun getting closer to showing. "Hurry!" she warned at me really loud. I ran faster, and I saw a dark cottage about the size of my grandma's mansion, which made it bigger than a cottage, but it looked like one on the outside. She ran into it quickly and I followed behind right as the sun rays hit the porch. I barely made it in the door as Kieyera was slammign it shut. She just saved me, I was THAT close to dying, or at elast burning.
"Thanks." I muttered. She nodded. She turned around and so did I, seeing a sight beyond belief.
