MARY

"Riiiinnngggg" There goes the bell, releasing us from this prison. I rush out the door and into the hallway filled with running students. I look ahead and see Emily trying to slow Mackenzie down, she always rushes down the hall to get her saxophone and get a good seat on the bus. I almost catch up to them, then suddenly stop when I get a jab to the side. Lance. I flip around, 180 degrees, fling my arms around as he laughs, trying to restrain my powers, which I have gotten better at controlling. I quickly turn straight back around and catch back up to Emily.
"Bye, Mackenzie." We both say. She has already rushed down the tiny "musical" hallway. Emily and I walk down to the bus ramp.
"Lance freaking jabbed me again. I swear, if he knew..." Emily laughs, and I'm secretly a little bit embarrassed. On the bus, I think of Lance. What if he likes me? I think he does, at least a little. Do I like him? Even if I do, I can't say that! Everyone will talk even more about Larry!!! And what if he doesn't like me? Ugh! Just forget it. I get off the bus and walk a little ways up to my house. When I get out my key and open the door, Lilly (my older sister) and my mom are waiting for me.
"Well you're here early." I say along with a little laugh while setting down my backpack.
"Mary, do you really have powers?" Asks Lilly.
  "Yeah, I thought you knew..."
"Oh my gosh." Says my mom. "I can't believe it's you. Mary. The chosen ruler."
"Yeah. Who thought it would've been her?" Lilly retorts.
"Hey!" I say. "I'm a freakin' chosen thingy man! You're so jealous! Um.. Mind explaining again what that thingy is, mom?" Lilly laughs, while my mom stays serious and elbows her in the side, and she quickly stops.
"Mary, there is a prophecy." This is so cliche. "That one person is meant to destroy Alasi and make a world of no villains, and this person is the only person who can defeat the Alasi ruler. Who is, obviously, James." She says.
"Well, not the only one, mom. Remember? Her two friends. And I believe that Mary is the kind of person who has only two friends." Lilly says.
"Hey!!" I reply.
"You two knock it off! Now, yes, two friends were in the prophecy, but they only helped, and.... other things happen as well." My mom pauses. "The prophecy says that a younger child will be the 'chosen ruler', because normally only the oldest child inherits powers."
"You guys better be messin' with me, man, cause this is getting weird." I say. First crazy powers, now this? What if Mackenzie and Emily are really the "two friends"? This really is weird. Why me, though? Why crazy Mary, who everyone thinks is insane? Why Mary who... Maybe really is insane?? Haha, nah, I'm just kidding. But really, though. Why me?

When I get to school the next day, before Math class (3rd period) while waiting outside the room, Mackenzie and I are talking. Suddenly, her eyes get big and she yells, "Apple pie!! Apple pie!!!" I quickly turn around to see the disappointment on Lances face, due to a failed attempt at jabbing me, once again.
  "Apple pie? Where?" He asks.
"It's our new code word, man! For whenever you come around! Freakin' .... weirdo!" I reply as Mackenzie and I fist bump with thumbs-up. (It's our thing.) He puts a weird look on his face, and turns around as our teacher lets us in the class.
Mackenzie walks over to her desk and puts her bag on the table, getting out all of her things, and I walk over there with her. "So how was your, ... uh.... weekend?" I always ask people about their day or weekend when I have nothing else to say.
"Mary, it's Thursday." She says, turning her attention from the board to me.
  "Haha, right."
"Alright guys, get in your seats, we got a busy day cause you guys are behind all the other classes." Says our teacher.
I take my seat and get out our text-book. Positive and negative square roots? Ugh.
Once everyone has finished, our teacher says "Get out a whiteboard and marker! Quick, quick, quick!" We all stampede over to the counter-top, people asking other people for markers, because they don't bring their own. Mackenzie is one of those people, so I give her one of mine. "Ok, I'll write a question on the board, and you write the answer, then hold your board up." 5x8(30+12/12)+ (-28) she writes. I figure some people, like Logan, freakin hate Logan..., will get this wrong due to not using the order of operations. But I'm ballin' man, I'm gonna get this right!
"Ok, hold up your boards!" The teacher says. My board says "43", and when I look around the room, everyone else has "1212". Everyone else except for Lance. Lances says, "Mary will get this wrong." I try to control the rage I feel along with a pulse. In my arms.
"Ok..." Our teacher says, looking around the room. "Everyone... Got it right... Oh! Except for Mary and L... nope, Lance got it right!" Everyone turns and looks at Lance's board. I hear people whispering Mary will....get this... and then laughing. I can tell, though, that Mackenzie is mad at Lance, or at least feels sympathy because she is usually never mad at anyone.
"Ugh!" I slam my board on my desk and begin to quickly erase. "See what I have to deal with everyday, Mackenzie?" I turn to her and she simply smiles.
"You're so stupid, Mary." Logan says. Right before I squeeze this desk enough to break it, I hear, in a small voice:
"You're stupid. Why can't you just leave her alone?" It's Mackenzie. She is actually speaking.
  "What?" Says Logan.
"I said, you're stupid, and you should leave her alone." Logan turns his head back around and I am surprised by how quickly the teacher just continues.
Mackenzie's face is red when she sits back down and she erases her board, fast.
"Butthole."  I hear Logan say under his breath. This is enough! I stand up, not even trying to hold it all back. In my peripheral vision, I see Mackenzie freaking out, looking she knows what's goin' down.
I will strangle you! I think. You're going down. Just before I reach his desk, I see a small bolt of light zap across the back of the room, and the lights go out, making it pitch black. I still want to get to him, but I can't see anything!
"May I have you're attention, please? It appears the circuits are blown and you will have to report to an outer class with windows if you are not in one. You are also allowed to take your class outdoors. We will update you and fix this problem as fast as we can. Thank you." Say the Dean over the intercom. Thanks for getting me out of this one, Mackenzie.

Yeah, I know that was kinda lame, but,... Uh... I got nothing...

😆😆I did my best! 😆😆
