I cradled his soft hand in mine,

"Okay, on three." I exclaimed. He nodded his head and plastered a smile on his face.

"One." I started off, examining the gap between his two front teeth.

"Two." He continued, us both sliding our feet towards the edge of the dock until our toes hung off the edge.

"Three!" We both shouted before plummeting into the chilly water. I felt his hand slip away from mine as we surfaced, engulfing a large dose of air into our tiny lungs. We then playfully splashed each other with water and casually floated on our backs, taking in the over cast sky.

"Katie?" I heard his faint voice whisper.

"Hmm?" I asked, closing my eyes just to concentrate on him speaking.

"When you go live with your dad, moving far away... Will you promise you won't forget me?" I re-opened my eyes, staring into his bright blue ones. I reached for his hand,

"I'll never forget you Louis."

*9 years and four months later*

"Katie! Katie? are you still there?" My mom shouted from the phone. I shook my head,

"Oh.. Yeah mom, I'm still here," I replied.

"Finally! where you day dreaming or something?" she asked. I smiled, remembering my last day in Doncaster; the day before I moved to America.

"Yeah mom, but I'm about to board the plane so I have to go!" I rushed while lifting my carry on bag and suitcase, heading down the tiny aisle leading to the plane.

"Okay sweetie, I'm so excited to see you! Oh and did I mention, the Tomlinson's are joining us for dinner tomorrow night." I pushed through the small lane of the plane,

"Yes mom you mentioned it-" I stopped for a second.

"Do you know if... erm- Louis... Louis is coming?" I asked not too hopefully.

"Oh, well I'm not sure, but I think the Joannah might have said something about him coming. I guess we'll have to just wait and see." As she spoke I shoved my suitcase into the compartment above the plane seats. I plopped down in the rough, scratchy, most likely germ infected, seat.

"Okay. Well I have to go. I'll see you soon, bye." I hung up the phone before leaning back and adjusting the seat belt. Once I was situated, I thought about my mom. I'd be lieing if I said I still wasn't the least bit angry with her; she did ship me away to my father across the whole word to California. Sure, I made new friends and grew to love my surroundings, but sending a twelve year old girl to live with an almost complete stranger probably didn't wouldn't have earned her a 'mother of the year' award.

I rubbed my tired eyes, contemplating on what I'd be doing for the next 11 hours stuck on a plane.

"Katie!" My mom yelled while running towards me. I smiled gently taping her back as she engulfed me into a bear hug.

"Oh honey, you look so beautiful and grown up! look at your hair it's so long," She pulled a loose strand of hair away from my face; I glanced around the airport, not wanting to make eye contact. She grinned, once again pulling me into a quick hug.

"I missed you Katie." She wiped away a tear that escaped from her baby blue eye. I didn't hug back, instead I pulled away and took the time to fully examine her. Her brown, slightly grey, hair was pulled into a low pony tail. She had few wrinkles on her forehead, chin, and around her eyes. When she smiled her laugh creases indented deeply around her nude lips. She then rubbed my back,

"C'mon let's get those bags in the car and bring you home." She explained with that thick brittish accent I didn't know I missed.
