It was a mistake coming back.
My father picked me up from the airport and it was nice seeing him. I missed him a lot, but being in California made me miss Louis even more. I started to wonder if I made the wrong choice; leaving Louis.
California was all wrong. The weather was much too hot and the sun was constantly beating down on me. It didn't rain much, and I had trouble sleeping at night without the relaxing pit pat of the water hitting the ground. Everyday I woke up in misery.
My friends wanted to see me. On the third night of me being back in California my friend Theo threw a party at his house. I went and pretended like I was having fun, but I just missed Louis, Harry, Liam, Niall, and Zayn. After that night I ignored all my friend's calls and invitations to parties and get-togethers. I didn't find joy in my old friends like I used too. I didn't belong here; my home was in Doncaster.
I tried to spend as much time with my dad as I could; I didn't want to think about Louis. It worked for a while, but when my dad returned to work after a week, I was left alone to my mind eating thoughts.
~
I woke up with the sun seeping through the blinds of the window and blinding me. I laid in bed for a while before getting up and starting yet another uneventful day. It was Sunday, exactly three weeks since I've been in California. I frowned as I threw my hair in a ponytail and sauntered out of my room and into the kitchen.
I poured myself a cup of coffee and grabbed the newspaper on the table. It was already opened and read through by my dad this morning. I flipped to the JOBS section and grabbed a marker before I started to circle possible jobs I could find. My dad didn't want me to work, he wanted me to get over my breakup that seemed to never get better.
But working would keep my mind off Louis; and time heals everything.. right?
My eyes scanned the newspaper when there was a knock at the front door. I stood up and went to answer it,
"Hey Katie." It was Theo. His hair was messy, it's dirty blonde color contrasting with his tanned skin. He wore dark blue swim trunks with a white t-shirt. He looked like a typical surfer "dude".
"Theo," I said, plastering a fake smile.
"Finn, Emelia, Quintin, and I were hitting the beach. Want to come with?" He asked. His bright blue eyes were wide and his smile was wider. I gave a fake look of disappointment as I replied,
"Sorry I can't. I have- Um, things I.. Have to do." His smile dropped and he nodded,
"Yeah, Okay." He said. "I'll see ya later."
"Bye." I went to shut the door when his voice stopped me,
"You know we all miss you," He said. I nodded,
"I know." I whispered.
"We want you to get better, but if you don't actually try, then you never will." He acknowledged. He walked away and I shut the door. I walked to the living room and plopped down on the couch. I reached for the remote and turned on the television. Good Morning America was on and my heart completely dropped when I saw One Direction on the screen.
I could hear my heart pounding through my ears when I saw Louis.
They were being interviewed and I completely forgot that they were beginning their US tour; they would be in California soon. I continued to watch the interview,
They all looked happy.
Louis looked happy.
I wasn't happy.
So I was going to make myself happy. I turned off the TV and grabbed my phone. I pressed Theo's contact name and waited as it rang.
"Katie?"
"Hey, about that trip to the beach..."
