-Don't forget to read A/N after the chapter. :)
I breathed the fresh, cold air into my lungs, walking on light snow that fluttered to the ground. I gripped the laces of the figure skates I had just purchased, and headed to the Ice rink in front of me. I saw few glances and silhouettes of people skating away; I couldn't help but giggle at the young boy that fell on his bum. I looked at the bright Christmas tree, making a mental note that Louis's birthday was nearing.
I got closer to the Ice rink and sat on a cold metal bench, a little nervous to get back on the ice. Slipping on the white figure skates I walked slowly to the ice, only to be greeted by a fast skating Louis,
"Katie!" He yelled, getting off the ice and wrapping his arms around me, "I missed you!" He blurted; I laughed.
"Lou, it's been two days." I reminded, he rolled his eyes. Even though they where the worst two days that I've encountered sense I've been here.
"Ready to get on the ice? You might want to hold on to me, you're talking to a professional right now by the way." He bragged. I laughed, he's soon going to get a handful.
"I think I'll be okay, I've ice skated before." I exclaimed.
"You do know it takes more than once to be good at ice skating Katie bear." He grinned, I smiled at my nickname he still chose to use. "Although, I've only gone a few times I'm still amazing.. No surprise." He continued. I laughed once again, pushing him away. I then hopped on the ice and circled around a little. Louis stepped on the ice and skated around a little also; he was pretty good for only going a few times, but I was better.
"Now you may want to start out slowly," Louis went on, "then, as you gain more confidence, and get used to the ice, you can speed up and maybe even try a little tricks."
I smiled. I then grabbed one of my feet, pulled it behind my back, and spun in circles and circles; loving the old feeling it gave me. It's exciting when your whole body is moving fluently on the ice; it feels like you're flying. I stopped and looked at Louis,
"Tricks like that?" I asked. His eyes where wide and full of shock. "Oh yeah! Did I forget to mention? I was a figure skater for six years!" I shouted, throwing my arms in the air and skating around Louis. Just then, a beautiful girl with long brown hair, came wobbling over to Louis. She grabbed on to his shoulders for support,
"Lou! You forgot about me!" She laughed, wrapping her arms around his neck. He wasn't the only one who forgot about her.
"I'm sorry babe," He muttered before sticking his lips to hers. I stood awkwardly, watching Louis and his girlfriend Eleanor kiss in front of me. Louis soon pulled away,
"El, this is Katie." He introduced us, She smiled and shook my hand, though had trouble moving on her skates. She was a little taller than me, her hair a little longer, her soft brown eyes contrasting with my hazel ones.
"Hi! I've heard so much about you! Louis couldn't stop talking about you for the past week!" She exclaimed; even the sound of her voice seemed perfect. Louis's cheeks flushed.
"Oh really? I hope all good things." I replied. She nodded,
"Yet he didn't tell me that you where such a good skater." She spoke, holding on to Louis's arm to keep from slipping.
"Oh, I didn't know that." Louis commented. I smiled,
"Yeah... I used to be a figure skater." I pointed out, still feeling a bit awkward as Louis held Eleanor tightly around the waist and kissed her cheek gently. I felt something rush through me, at the pit of my stomach. "Well, shall we skate?" I asked, tired of just standing there. Louis nodded, grabbing Eleanor's hand and helping her skate. I circled around the rink a little, passing Louis and Eleanor a few times. I didn't know why Louis picked ice skating; I was just left alone, them skating together as if on a date, but that one friend joined along because she was felt sorry for; I was that one friend.
For some odd reason it really aggravated me, the way Eleanor seemed perfect; even with her horrible skating skills! She had perfect hair, perfect eyes, she seemed incredibly nice; so nice to the point to where it was extremely irritating.
Louis seemed to beam every time he looked at her; though there was something missing. Even though Lou 'seemed' happy, he didn't quite 'look' happy. There was something about his small smile, or the way his eyes seemed to be filled with boredom. Almost like the felling when you're trapped in a small room, with lots of people, and the only thing you want to do is to step out side and run around in the open space, run around with the knowledge of freedom; but you're stuck in this tiny, crowded, area.
As if on Que, Eleanor got off the ice rink, phone to her ear, as Louis skated freely over to me; I felt a bit of anger boil inside, Louis seemed to sense this,
"Hey! what's the matter?" He asked, skating next to me. I looked at him, faking a smile,
"Nothing!" I tried sounding happy; it didn't work. Louis rolled his eyes and stopped me from skating.
"Lou, we're getting in people's way-" I tried,
"I don't care about them." He asserted, "Really Katie, what's wrong?" He insisted. I sighed,
"I have no idea why you would pick to go ice skating. Ice skating is a horrible idea of introducing me to your girlfriend." I snapped. I noticed how rude I sounded and put my hands on my mouth, "Sorry, sorry I didn't mean to put it that way. I meant-" I started to ramble, but Louis stopped me with a smile,
"It's okay. I think I understand what you meant." He implied. I relaxed,
"It's just... I hate feeling like the third wheel." I also hated how annoying I sounded, like the little sister that wanted to play with the big kids.
"I'm sorry Katie bear," Louis linked his and my arm together, "From now on you're the second wheel." Louis grinned. I laughed loudly,
"Thanks Lou." I replied sweetly, "Wanna race?" I asked, he beamed,
"I thought you'd never ask." He then took off, and I chased behind him. We chased each other around for a while, feeling like little kids. Eleanor came back a little bit ago, she gripped the wall tightly as Louis and I freely skated around. I couldn't help but feel bad, so I skated to her as Louis left to use the toilet.
"Hey!" I said. She continued edging along the wall, not paying any attention to me. "Hey..." I said again just in case she didn't hear me the first time. Once again, she didn't do a thing. "Do you um... Wanna do something else? Maybe get ice cream or something-" I started saying; feeling a bit sorry for her; but she cut me off,
"Really? Because you look like you're having fun flirting and messing around with my boyfriend." she snarled.
"Er.. Lou and I are just friends-"
"Oh please, don't try that 'just friends' thing with me." she snapped. She continued before I could get a word in, "How about you stay away from my boyfriend and quit being such a home-wrecker." said Eleanor, a sneer look on her face. I felt my blood boil, but I stayed calm,
"I don't know if I did anything to make you mad at me, if I did I'm sorry. Louis and I are only friends, and in no way am I trying to ruin your guy's relationship" I tried. She rolled her eyes,
"How about you just leave that would make me happy!" She shouted.
"Look, I'm not getting in the way with your relationship." I stated.
I heard her mumble a small "slut."
"You know what, I tried." I said, skating angrily off the ice rink and walking over to where my shoes stayed. After pulling on my shoes I stomped to my mother's car (which I had borrowed). I started the car and drove off.
This night couldn't have gone any worse.
IN NO WAY DO I THINK ELEANOR WOULD EVER ACT THIS WAY, IT'S JUST FOR MY STORY. just needed to say that. For all I know Eleanor could be the sweetest most nicest person in the world, which she probably is, but having her this way is what I need for my story.
