Heather
I speed all the way through downtown LA traffic, and I swear my throat is closing. My chest is tight, and my breathing gets heavy. I need to pull over. I swerve all the way over to the shoulder lane, and thank God I don't crash. I have to lay my head on the steering wheel and close my eyes, it's the only way I'm able to calm down.
light knocks on my window
I look up, to see a cop now blocking the sun.
I know I have tears in my eyes, so I quickly try to wipe them away as I let down my window. "Officer I am so sorry." I speak and my voice instantly cracks
"Are you okay ma'am?" He speaks in a serious tone
A tear falls from my eyes but I nod yes. "I just had a panic attack officer, I'm so sorry for speeding, but I needed to get off the street for a while."
"Would you mind opening your car door?" He says taking off his sunglasses. I do as he asks, and sit with my legs sitting out of the car. I turn off the engine, and I honestly don't think I can take getting a ticket right about now. "So you have panic attacks?" He asks kneeling down to my level
"Yes." I nod wiping the last of my tears. "When I see something familiar, or think about it, I feel my chest tightening, I thought I was going to choke. I needed to pull over. I swear I wasn't drinking." I say grabbing my license out of the cup holder, but he declines.
"No, I believe you. I have them as well, and I can understand. I had my first car accident that way, but you just have to learn to calm yourself down. You did do the right thing though, you got off of the road." He says going back to his car, getting me a bottle of water.
I take a sip. "Thank you so much officer."
"No problem, just make sure your okay, before getting back on the road. I'll follow you for a few blocks alright!" He says looking down at me
I give a light smile. "Thank you, I don't live too far from here. I think I can make it."
"No problem at all." He smiles, and he's actually pretty handsome. "Here is my card. Let me know if you ever need anything." He says touching my hand. I take the card, and watch as he makes it back to his squad car. He nods to me, and I pull off with him right behind me. He follows me for about 7 minutes or until I make it to my exit. He lets down his window. "Your doing good, just keep calm! Use my card if you ever need to okay."
"Okay Officer Jordan." I smile
He does as well. "Do I get your name?"
The light turns green. "Heather, but you can call me Heavie..." I say before making a right heading into my neighborhood. I look back in my rearview mirror and he was heading in the opposite direction.
I finally make it home and I'm calm, but I can't get Michael out of my head. I think about him everyday, and now I have to actually see him. I don't think I can continue this "thing" I have with Chris.
"God, I guess it's not meant to be..." I say aloud walking into my apartment
flashback starts
"Is that Chris' mom?" I ask looking over at their old house, seeing a moving truck
"Yup!" My homegirl Kehlani answers. "They are finally moving into some big ass house on the East side. I talked with Keeis, and he said all of them were moving together. Michael got them some new place in the hills with his new fiancé."
I sigh. "Well I wouldn't know; I haven't talked to Chris in a few months."
"What happened? Y'all were getting close!" she says as we cross the street, passing their house. "Didn't he take your virginity?" She whispers
