Chapter 18
Darren drove me home and I told him to come in. “Jeremy!” I screamed. He bounded down the steps. “Yes?” he asked, his eyes glittering. “Apologize. Now,” I said, annoyed. “Sorry for letting you sleep over at your boyfriend’s house,” he said. I slapped him. “We’re not dating ” I ran upstairs, but then I heard Jeremy and Darren talking. “So, how did she like it?” Jeremy asked.
“Well, she seemed surprised, for one thing, but I’m actually glad you let her come home with me,” Darren said, not embarrassed. Jeremy must’ve been confused. I was listening from the stairs, so I couldn’t see either of them. “Why?” Jeremy asked. “Well,” Darren said. “You can’t tell her this, promise?” Jeremy laughed. “Well, we sound like five year olds, but yeah. You got my word,” he said. “You see,” Darren said. “Your sister is an angel, and I’m her guardian.”
