Cortana: The Lost Story

Requiem

Well... We're here. This place is much more amazing than I imagined. The buildings here, they are unlike anything I've ever seen before. They look like Forerunner buildings, but so much more advanced, and they also aren't destroyed after hundreds of years of neglect. This is amazing, I can't believe I got to live to see this. Not to mention the fact that I have a parade of Forerunner technology leading me straight to their leader to discuss business.
"Right this way Cortana, the Librarian is waiting for you." The Watchers say guiding me through the building.
"How did this shield world survive? We have been looking for hundreds of years looking for signs of Forerunners still living but haven't even come close to finding anything." I ask trying to find out a little more on what happened.
"The Librarian had expected the war that killed our species was coming, so in a effort to at least leave some of the Forerunner memory around Watchers and Promethean's were created. We were made to protect this planet at all costs for all of time. This war killed the Librarian, but she was able to get an exact copy of herself placed here so she could live on forever." They say explaining more than I asked for.
"Wait the Librarian is dead?"
"Yes, if she wasn't she would've visited you herself, you are of great interest to her. Anyway she can answer any more of your questions we will leave you two alone to talk."

"Hello Cortana, it's nice to finally meet you."
The Librarian greets me politely.
"It's nice to meet you too, so what is it so important for us to talk about?" I ask getting straight to business.
"Well now that the Didact can't hear us, we need John, he is going to be our saviour."
"Who is this Didact?" I ask having never heard the name.
"He is my husband, or ex I should say. Before I died I did everything I could to save some Forerunner tech and him. I see both survived. But I wish he hadn't."
"What makes this Didact so important?"
"He used to be a Forerunner commander, before our species died out. In fact he's the last one left. He would be in control of these machines but I stole them from him and locked him away."
"If he's locked away how is he dangerous." I ask getting confused.
"This is why you can't tell John, he won't do this if he knows the consequences, John must set the Didact free."
"Now why would we do that?" I ask wondering why'd we do such a stupid thing.
"John is meant to do great things, if he doesn't do this Requiem will be his grave." The Librarian tells me, somehow giving a reasonable answer.
"How so?"
"The Unsc Infinity will come to pick you up. But it will only be able to if the Didact is released. It's the only way they can get inside the planet."
"Ok, so you expect us to release the greatest enemy there ever was and then defeat him?"
"Precisely"
"Ok, you seem to understand all of this so what do I do now?" I ask moving on.
"I'm going to give you a map, I want you to study it, this will lead you where you need to go. Once John gets here take him to the location on the map. Immediately. I'll call you to talk more once you've studied that map well."
"Ok, so I guess this is goodbye for now. Until we meet again I guess."
