The bell above the coffee shop rang loudly, signalling the workers that a customer had walked inside. It was warm, just as Austin had promised. The smell off coffee and little bakery foods filled up the little shop nicely, making Alan smile widely. It was nice here. Tables filled up around the room, booths against the windows and people filling a majority of them. Employees served the customers their orders and wished them a happy afternoon before going back to work. It was perfect, Alan felt.
"What would you like, sweetie?" A nice lady greeted Alan and Austin as they walked up to the counter.
"Um," Alan scanned over the menu before telling her his order, Austin doing the same after a few minutes of a decision. They both took a seat in a booth, watching the still falling snow piling to the ground and people walking past the warm coffee shop going wherever they need to be.
Alan shivered some, balling his hands up in the sleeves of his sweatshirt. Austin watched him curiously for a moment. He took in his appearance. Alan always wore an oversized sweater, skinny jeans and toms. It wasn't weird, just really cute and Austin was curious but before he could think of anything to say, the words seemed to blurt out of his mouth.
"Why do you always wear a sweater?" Alan looked up, a little surprised because it was quiet between them.
"Oh, I-I really love them. They're cute and warm." He answered, smiling some.
"So even if it's eighty degrees outside, you can still wear a sweater?" Austin questioned, Alan smiled more and nodded.
"But it's not hot outside, it's cold and I can enjoy my warm sweaters even more." Alan said which made Austin chuckle and shake his head.
Their coffees were soon served to them in mugs with little designs on them that made Alan grin. The coffee was hot and delicious as ever, it made Alan's tummy feel warm.
By the time they finished their coffees, Austin was walking Alan home. Although neither of them really wanted to leave the cozy coffee shop, it was time for Alan to go, which Austin understood and was happy to walk him home. They were making weird conversation, laughing and joking. At one point Austin nearly slipped on the icy sidewalk and was close to falling to his butt if it weren't for Alan helping him and then laughing his ass off about it afterwards. Eventually Austin and Alan were stood outside Alan's home, saying goodbyes.
"Thank you for the coffee and the most hilarious moment." Alan said, smiling up at the tall boy. Austin's cheeks warmed up a bit and he began to run at the back of his neck awkwardly.
"Yeah, um...it was sort of scary." Austin said, Alan giggled just as the door opened up and his mother was standing outside, a fluffy blanket wrapped around her shoulders.
"Where have you been all afternoon?" She asked, wrapping the blanket tighter as the cold air outside swept into the house.
"Drinking coffee," Alan answered simply. "I believe you've already met Austin." Alan motioned to Austin who gave a slight wave and smile. Ms. Ashby smiled at him.
"Hey sweetie," she then turned her attention back to Alan. "Aaron was over here earlier, he's asleep in your room by the way." Alan groaned.
"You let him sleep in my bed even though he's sick?" Alan asked, his mother shrugged.
"He fell asleep on the couch, I managed to wake him up and told him to go upstairs because I wanted to watch t.v. and curl up."
Alan sighed but nodded, knowing he'd have to take care of his best friend since he was already here. He turned to Austin.
"See you tomorrow?" Alan asked, Austin nodded and smiled.
"Oh! Will you need a ride to school tomorrow sweetie? I won't have to be at work until later in the day, it won't be a bother at all." Ms. Ashby said.
"Um, s-sure, I guess so." Austin said, shrugging. He couldn't really reject the offer, it was only going to become colder and he didn't like the idea of going to school freezing cold.
Ms. Ashby smiled and so did Alan. She turned and went back inside, leaving the two boys standing on the porch. Alan smiled once again up at Austin, who couldn't stop himself from smiling too.
"Bye, and thanks for coffee." Alan said, Austin said a goodbye and waited until the door was closed before leaving and heading home. His old man was pacing around the room and yelling into the phone when Austin walked through the front door. Of course, Austin thought, rolling his eyes and going upstairs to his room. He plopped down on his bed, running fingers through his hair and smiling, thinking about the whole day, about his classes, Alan. Damn. Austin's smile couldn't have gotten any wider. Just a simple thought about the small boy was enough to make his cheeks hurt. Alan was cute, there was definitely no denying that.
Austin sighed and ran fingers through his hair, sitting up against the wall that his bed was against, feeling his phone vibrate. He retrieved it and unlocked it with a swipe of his thumb, reading over the text message before smirking.
Ahren: party tonight? You up for it man?
All it took was a simple reply and Ahren said he was on his way to pick Austin up for the party.
