ELEANOR'S POV

My hands are sweating and I feel nauseous. I know what that means, it's talent show time. The last day of camp has finally dawned upon us which means I will have about a month to spend with Louis, doing whatever we want. But for now, I need to focus on winning this. I know for sure if it was just Louis performing, he would sail through the competition, but now with me on board I'm not so sure. The bitch squad is here as well and even though I haven't had any up front confrontation with them, I know they still hate me so that's just more motivation to win.

Right now, I'm at sound check to run through the song one last time before we perform it to the judges. As I approach the mic, Louis shoots me a charming smile, making me feel tensed up and at ease at the same time. Weird.

Louis' piano intro begins and I wait to hear his majestic voice. It was so crisp and beautiful and it was also ending soon which means my turn! I am not mentally prepared for this. I start singing cautiously but slowly gain more confidence as the song goes on.

After we hit the last note, I notice a few of the crew members looking at us. Oh no, was it bad? Unexpectedly, they broke out into applause, making me smile brightly. Now I was pumped. If the crew thought it was decent, chances are the audience will think so as well.

LOUIS' POV

I'm sure we got this in the bag, not to sound cocky, but that was a pretty good run through so I'm confident in our abilities. El seemed nervous but she pulled it off in the end and I'm so proud of her for it.

"There's still an hour left, wanna go to the beach?" El suggested.

"Sure, that sounds wonderful," I beam.

We sit along the shore, her head resting on my chest and my arm around her waist. The waves acting as a never ending lullaby. I lay my head back and allow myself to drift asleep...

I'm woken up by an increasing sound coming from who knows where. When I fully open my eyes, I realize it's El, yelling at me.

"What's happening?" I ask frantically.

"We're on in 15 minutes and I can't find your music!" I can sense the worry in her voice.

"I left it on the piano," I say cautiously.

"I know! It's not there. I checked 10 minutes ago."

"Don't worry, let's ask someone if they've seen it. I'm sure it'll turn up," I say trying to calm her down.

"I hope you're right," she says unsure.

Turns out she was correct. My music was no where to be found, almost as if it vanished into thin air. We were on in 5 minutes and I was going to perform with or without music.

"Listen, I can memorize most of it, so let's just perform without it," I predict that was what was gonna happen anyways.

"We can't! We'll screw up for sure," she protested.

"Don't worry, I'm the one playing, I'll figure something out I promise."

She smiled in response so I'm gonna take that as a yes.

The announcer called us up and I sat myself down in front of the familiar black and white rectangles. It was now or never. I play the intro with no mistakes actually, and sing my solo. All was going pretty well.

ELEANOR'S POV

I don't know what's happening but it's almost as if I'm frozen. All the people staring at me, it's quite intimidating.

Next thing I know, I hear Louis singing but I can't bring myself to move my own two feet so I just stand there looking like a statue.

I panic as I hear Louis' solo come to an end but remain in the same position. I miss the intro to my solo but thankfully, Louis continues to play and I finally snap out of it and turn back to look at him. He nods, telling me to sing as he plays the intro to my solo again. Miraculously, I sing. The rest of the performance goes as well as the run through during sound check, thank goodness.

When we come off stage, I quickly apologize to Louis.

"I'm so sorry for messing up. The ruined it and the entire time I was lecturing you about not making mistakes," I cry out.

"Shh, love, it's totally fine, you were amazing! You should be as proud as I am." And with that, he pulled me into a hug that I gladly returned.

About 20 minutes later, the announcer comes up on stage with the results of the competition. I feel the B.S. staring me down, but I ignore it. I'm more concerned about what the announcer is about to say.

"In third place, John the Juggler!" We all clap as he accepts the trophy.

"In second place, taking home $50, is Stanley and his karate cat! Great job!"

This was it. It was between us and the B.S. Finally, the moment I've been waiting for. Will my hard work pay off?
