*Samantha's POV*
It was the Thursday following the homecoming dance. I hadn't really spoken to JJ all week because football has been taking up all of his time which was fine, I completely completely understand that's his passion and he wants to do well, it still sucks though because we haven't gotten the chance to really talk about the night we kissed. I was sitting in the lunchroom all by myself like I normally do, when I saw JJ and all of his football buddies came walking in and sat down at their table. At one point, he looked over at me and we made eye contact and briefly smiled at me. Of course I smiled snd waved back at him but he didn't come over and talk to me about what the next step of whatever this was going on between the two of us. I was so confused and didn't know who to talk to about this, its not like I could go to Connie and talk to her about her own son. As close as we were, I didn't think that was such a good idea just yet. She is notorious for meddling and I wasn't ready for her to wake JJ up bright and early one morning trying to dig for some more dirt.
So there I was just sitting by myself, reading some emails from my agent who was eager to get me back to New York and sending me things about new upcoming projects. I got lost in all of the notes and play writes that I didn't notice I began humming tunes from Les Mis, one of my all time favorite musicals and I don't know how but I didn't notice the 6'3" boy sitting next to me. JJ cleared his throat and made me jump. "Hey, I see you're in your own little world over here." I looked up at him and smiled. "You know more than anyone that a good song can get me lost. So what brings you away from your buddies and over here to me?"
"Would you rather I leave you alone? You know, we've been friends for a very long time and it deeply saddens me that you wouldn't want to spend any time for me!" he says, putting both his hands over his heart and giving me his best puppy eyes.
"Of course I enjoy spending time with you JJ, I just..." Before I could even finish that sentence he cut me off. "Good, so you'll come with me to the diner after the game tomorrow night?" Everyone who was anyone in this high school went to the diner after a Friday night game. I would rather spend the night with it just being him and I but since I vowed to myself at the beginning of this school year to be a "normal" high school girl, I was going to go. Plus, it wouldn't hurt to go on a date with JJ, if that's what he meant by it. "Like a date?" I responded with my eyebrows raised. He looked at me for a second and put a long lock of my hair behind my ear, "Yes a date Samantha, you got a problem with that?" I blushed and smirked up at him, "No, no problems here."
"Good, come to the game with my mom and dad and I'll meet up with you afterwards, ok?"
I hadn't missed a game of JJ's every since he started playing football and I wasn't going to start now. "Ok." was all I could respond with and before I knew it the school bell rang and he jumped up and was joining his buddies who were walking out of the cafeteria.
*JJ's POV*
"What's up with that man? Finally going to try and tap that?" my buddy Chris said to me while clapping his arm around my shoulder and swinging his head back in Samantha's direction. "Come on man, I'm not like that. You know Samantha and you know I'm not just looking to get in her pants. I mean, it wouldn't hurt though." We both laughed. Chris was my buddy and if it was anybody else, I wouldn't have made that joke. I couldn't explain it, Samantha was special to me. But we were 16 year old guys with raging hormones, there was no explaining to your buddy that you were in love with someone. I would just have to show him how serious I was about Samantha and how I'm not just trying to get a piece of tail like most guys my age. I guess since we've known each other for so long we just have a different kind of connection, she gets me.
"Dad, could I borrow your truck again after the game tonight?" This was when my dad was in the best mood, he had just gotten home from work, had his comfy pants on, chilling in his chair with a cold one in his chair. "What do you need it for? I hope you're not planning to take it to some party." He looked over at me. "No, I was going to take Samantha out to the diner afterwards, grab some dinner." He looked at me, sort of in shock. "Samantha? Like little Samantha?" He still referred to her as little Samantha and I don't know if that's because around us all, she is pretty tiny or if it's because he still sees her as a little girl. Even though Samantha doesn't have a Father in her life to give me a stern talking to before I take her out, I know my dad would be more than happy to fill that space. Every year, our elementary school would have a father-daughter breakfast, and when we were waiting out by the school bus, some little girl and her dad stopped and asked Sam if she was going and the look on her face when she told them no, she didn't have a dad, broke my own father's heart. So, he took her out to breakfast that day and still to this day, they go out to breakfast together on that same date. I know, my dad would kick my ass if I did anything to hurt her.
"Yes dad, our Samantha. I just had a good time with her at the dance last week, I want to take her out again." he looked at me for a couple of minutes, made me squirm a little bit. I never told my family that me and Sam ditched the dance and were making out in front of the ice arena instead, but what they didn't know wouldn't kill them.
"Okay, but a couple rules first. Have her back at her house by midnight. So, it takes 5 minutes to get home from her grandfather's so I want you in our house no later than 12:06...Also, do not disrespect her in any way, treat her like a lady. Have fun, and if you hurt her, well you know I'll hurt you son!"
I ran out the door to school and was ready to go out with Samantha that night. I just had to focus on this game first.
