one month later...

**Samantha's POV**

I was humming and rehearsing the song I was going to sing for when I was going to talk to the producers of the next revival play coming to Broadway, Anything Goes, and I wanted this staring role more than anything but it didn't start for another 6 months or so. My headphones were on when my phone started ringing and I looked down to see it was Connie calling me. 

"Hey Connie! How are things going back at home?" Even though I hadn't been back to Wisconsin since I left when I was 17, it was still home to me.

"Everything's great- a little crazy around here with everyone being so excited that JJ got drafted, but good! ESPN is coming out in a couple of months to feature JJ is some recruit special."

"Oh that's awesome, I'm so proud of him." I said while biting my nails out of nervous habit. 

"Anyways, the reason I called was because we having this surprise party slash dinner for him in a couple weeks and I was wondering if you'd be able to take some time off to come. You are JJ's oldest friend after all darling." 

I sat in silence for a moment, thinking it over. Was I ready for this? I think we were long over due for seeing each other- it has been a long time. 

"Hello? Are you there?" Connie said into the phone. 

"Sorry I blanked for a second. Umm, well I'll think about it that's for sure. Just text me the details for it and I'll let you know. But, don't tell JJ?" I asked her. 

"My lips are sealed- I won't mention your name to him at all till the event." She said to me. 

"Thanks, hey I'll talk to you in a bit- okay? I have to go rehearse."

"Okay baby doll, I'll talk to you soon. Love you."

"Love you too."

**JJ's POV**

It had been a little over a month since I had been drafted and it has been crazy ever since. I have been working out with Brad every day and eating everything I can to get bigger and stronger and getting ready to leave for Texas. I knew that was going to be a tough one- leaving my family was never easy. Especially not leaving them to go live by myself in a completely different time zone. 

My dad wanted to take me out to go watch one of the old high school hockey games which was unusual, but I enjoyed the company. 

"Dad- you were supposed to turn right back there to head home. Where are we going now?" I asked when I didn't recognize where we were. 

"Oh just gonna go grab a bite to eat, that's all." he replied. 

I knew something was shady, but I just went along with it with a smile on my face. My parents were the best. We pulled up to some pub that looked pretty cool and I got out and let my father lead the way to the door. When we walked in, the hostess smiled up at me and said, "Right this way Mr. Watt."

Once we reached the back of the pub, I could see all of my family and friends there waiting for me with a huge congratulations banner hanging from the back of the ceiling.

"SURPRISE!" they all shouted once they saw me. 

I just smiled and walked over to hug and thank every one of them.
