Telling the Family

Maddie's POV
Wes and I had just pulled up to the diner where our families were meeting us at to have an early dinner, also so we could tell them about the babies. Ready, Love? As ready as I'll ever be. I let out a light breath and got out of the truck. I met Wes at the front bumper and our fingers linked together as we walked in. I automatically saw everyone sitting at the larger table towards the back of the diner. Wes gave my hand a reassuring squeeze before we got to the table to greet everyone. Hey guys! They all got up one by one to give us a hug before we were all sitting down. About an hour later we were all done eating and were sitting around the table talking. Wes put his hand on my thigh under the table and gave me a slight nod. I looked at him and slightly nodded back before he spoke up. Can we have your attention for a minute please guys? They all looked up and stopped what they were doing to look at the two of us. Okay.. So when we got back last week, Wes went back to work the day after while I took one extra day off. I thought maybe it was just jet lag and everything messing me up, but uh, I thought about it a little longer and became smarter about it. So I took a few tests and we found out that, Wes have my hand another reassuring squeeze before I finished. I'm pregnant..... Everybody started giving their congratulations and my mother got up from her chair to give both of us a hug. "I'm so happy for you sweetheart. You're going to make incredible parents." Wes then spoke up after my mom sat down. Uh, we also had our first doctors appointment on Thursday and found something else out.. We're having twins.. Everybody got up and congratulated us once again before we all headed out. Wes and I decided to take the 2 hour drive back home tonight so we are all rested up for shift in 2 days. I'm hoping the traffic isn't too hectic tonight so we get home at a decent hour. As we pulled out onto the interstate Wes held my hand in his as he drove. About ten minutes later I felt myself fall into a deep sleep.
Wes's POV
We told the family tonight about the twins and are going back to Chicago now. Maddie's hand is in mine and she is in a deep sleep next to me. I smile as I get off of the main drag and get out of the heavy traffic into the soothing Chicago night. Twenty minutes later we pull into the parking lot and I gently shake Maddie's shoulder to wake her up. Hey Love, we're home. Come on, let's go up to bed? She grunted so I got out of the truck and went around to her side of the truck. C'mon baby, let's go in. I carefully picked her up out of the truck and carried her up the steps. Once we were inside I felt her shift a little bit and she woke up. I gently set her down on the ground and she wrapped me in a hug, kissing me on the cheek. I held her tight and kissed her head before she pulled away. We both went upstairs to bed and quickly fell into a deep sleep.
The next morning I woke up to Maddie jumping out of bed as quick as possible and heading straight for the bathroom. I quickly got up and held her hair back as she got rid of the contents of what she had the night before. I rubbed her back as she finished throwing up and then went to get her a bottle of water. I came back to her brushing her teeth and flushing down the contents of her stomach. I gave her the bottle of water and she gulped down half of it before she finally said anything. And so the morning sickness begins... You don't have to get up every time I feel like I'm getting sick. I want you to be able to sleep. Don't even think about it. I want to get up with you. I want to be the one getting up at 3 am to get you whatever you are craving. You're not in this alone baby. I wrapped her in a hug and kissed her forehead. Thank you.. Come on, let's go back to bed for awhile? Then when we get back up I will make breakfast, and this afternoon I can have Marcus come over to help me start setting up the nursery. Sound good? She nodded slightly. We walked back to bed and I laid down, pulling her down on top of me. Maddie laid on my chest, content and fell back asleep. I however stayed awake, drawing lazy patterns on her back, soothing her while she slept.
About an hour later Maddie woke back up and looked down at me. I gave her a lazy smile and she leaned down to kiss me. So, how about the breakfast? Oh come on Wes! You and I both know you can't cook! Hey now! I can too! Not as good as you, but I can fry up some eggs or something for you. Thank you Babe. I can already tell that your kids are gonna wipe me out! Oh so they're mine now? Yep, whenever they keep me up at night or kill my back, they're all yours. She looked at me with a cheeky smile before getting out of bed, going to the dresser to get out a pair of sleep pants and one of my old CPD shirts. I got up then too, walking to the kitchen in just my shorts. While I was cooking I felt her arms wrap around my waist and she kissed my shoulder. I turned the stove off and turned around in her arms. She leaned her head against my chest as I kissed her head. So, after we eat, I already called Marcus and he said that he can come over around 2. So that gives us about 4 hours to go to the hardware store to get some paint. What do you think? That sounds perfect, honestly. She pulled out of my arms and went to the fridge and pulled out the orange juice. Then I finished making breakfast and we sat down to eat.
