Wes
Today is the annual barbecue for the CFD. Maddie and I have gone every year that she has been a part of the department, and this year isn't going to be any different. I woke up around 8 o'clock and took a shower. Getting out of the shower I peeked into our bedroom to make sure Maddie was still asleep. After my worries were put aside, I got dressed and quietly walked into Alya's room to get her ready. Hey Princess. Time to wake up. I gently pushed the hair out of her face and laid my hand on her small shoulder. Her eyes slowly opened, getting wider by the second. She groggily sat up and crawled onto my lap. Morning Baby Girl. Are you ready to see uncle Alex again? Mommy told me you were very excited. Her eyes lit up and sparkled bright. Then she jumped off my lap and grabbed my hand, pulling me towards the bathroom. Come ON Daddy! Hurry, I gots to see Uncle Alex! I laughed and picked her up in my arms. How about, we get your brother up, eat breakfast. Then we can get dressed, wake mommy up. And then we can go? Sound like a plan? She gave another one of her dramatic sighs. Oookaaay. I kissed the side of her hair as we walked into Taylor's room. I sat on the side of his bed with Alya still on my hip. Taylor, time to wake up, bud. He has always been the easier twin to wake up. He sat right up and crawled out of bed, getting down and grabbing my hand. He knows the drill, we do the same thing almost every morning. When I don't have to work, I wake up at 8, take a shower, and then wake Alya up before Taylor. I take them downstairs for breakfast and then get them dressed before waking Maddie up. It's been a routine since she became pregnant again. Come on Munchkins. What do you want for breakfast? They both started spilling out different kinds of foods. I eventually gave up, laughing before giving them a choice. Okay, how about I make you some French toast and some fruit? They both nodded their heads before I set them down in the living room to play while I made their food.
After the twins ate I took them upstairs to get dressed.
After getting the twins dressed and ready to go, Maddie had woken up. After we both ate a quick breakfast we both headed for the door. I put both of the twins into their car seats before stopping Maddie at the front of the car. Are you sure you're okay, baby? I'm fine. Honestly. I gave her a disbelieving look and she sighed then. Alright alright. I've been having small contractions since last night. It's nothing. Let's just get through the picnic. She'll come when she's ready. Okay. At least let me go back inside and get the bag for the hospital just in case? If you've been having contractions since yesterday, the time for her to make her appearance in the world is up to her. She nodded. Okay. I'll be back in a second and then we can go. I kissed her forehead before she got into the passenger seat. I ran back inside and grabbed the bag before sitting down in the drivers seat and driving to the park for the barbecue.
Maddie
It has been two hours since we got to the barbecue. I'm still having small contractions every now and then, but they're manageable. Alya and Taylor are with Alex right now and I am so grateful for that. It's almost time for food, so Wes and I sat down at the picnic table that our firehouse had claimed. Shortly after, Alex came back with the two little munchkins. Wes stood up and took a tired looking Alya from Alex's arms, while Taylor crawled up in between Marley and I.
While I was helping Taylor eat, I felt a sharp pain go through my stomach. I hissed through the pain, trying not to draw attention. However, Marley and Wes didn't let it go unknown. Wes held Alya in his arms while she slept, but put his hand on the small of my back while Marley looked me in the eyes. Maddie, are you okay? I slightly nodded, but I could tell neither of them were convinced. By now everyone at the table had stopped to see what was going on. Wes rubbed soothing circles on my back and started to whisper. Baby, are you sure the baby isn't coming? You were like this right before the twins were born too. I turned to look at him, fear obvious in my eyes. Wes understood the look in my eyes, the look of fear, and the look telling him it was time to go to the hospital. He nodded before standing up. Alex stood up as well, reaching out for Alya, who was still napping on her father's shoulder. Here, I'll take her. After the barbecue I'll take them both home with me. Just call when you want me to bring them to the hospital. Wes shot a thanking nod his way before coming back over to me, helping me stand. Taylor finally came to realization that I had left his side. Mama? Wes made sure I was steady before going back over to Taylor. I could hear him talking to Taylor from where I was standing. Mommy has to go to the hospital now bud. You get to meet your new baby sister soon! Be good for uncle Alex okay? I saw Taylor nod before Wes gave him a kiss on the forehead. Coming back over to me, Wes put his hand at the small of my back again, leading me slowly to the car. Wes helped me into the car before running to the drivers side, racing to the hospital.
Pulling up to the hospital, Wes squeezed my hand before jumping out to come help me up. We slowly walked inside to the desk. Thankfully the park is closest to Chicago Med, which is where my doctor is at. As we got to the front desk, a doctor came up to us quickly, bringing a wheelchair with her. I was automatically taken back to the delivery room with Wes by my side.
