Back Home (Time Jump)

Maddie's POV
Our time in the Dominican Republic and Australia was beyond amazing. I had the best time. This morning I started feeling a little sick to my stomach so I took one last shift off before going back, although Wes went back to work today. I just didn't feel right. It must just be all the jet lag from flying all over the place and everything. That's what I thought before Wes left earlier. Then I thought about it some more. I'm late.. I know that I'm late. I had to find out for sure though before I even thought about telling Wes. So, I put on some sweats and my CFD shirt and went out to the corner store to get 3 pregnancy tests.
When I got home I took the first one. 2 pink lines showed up on the stick after two minutes of hell having to wait in agony. To be sure I took the other two tests. Sure enough, they came back with the same results. I sat down on our bed in shock for a few minutes. That's until I heard the door open and close. Hey babe? I thought I would stop by for lunch to see how you're doing. Marcus came along too. I dried the tears that I didn't realize we're falling and got up from the bed to go to Wes. Hey baby. I'm feeling a lot better. Hey Marcus. Good seeing you again. He smiled and nodded back at me. You too Maddie. Wes looked at me a little concerned. Everything okay Baby? Uh, how about we go in the kitchen, I'll make some lunch for you guys and we can talk? Yea sure... Okay. Make yourself at home, Marcus. We walked into the kitchen and I leaned against the counter. I know why I've been feeling weird since we got back. Okay...? So what's wrong? I decided showing him was the best option so I held up one finger, telling him to hold on while I went to our bathroom and grabbed the little pink and blue stick out of the trash. I walked back to the kitchen with it hidden behind my back. I stood there for a second before I pulled the stick out from behind me. I slowly handed it to Wes before taking a step back. You're...? Yes. We're pregnant... Then there was the biggest smile on his face. Resembling the one he had on our wedding day. He set the stick on the counter before coming over to me and picking me up, twirling me around in circles in the kitchen. He leaned in to give me a kiss, just as we pulled away we heard Marcus clear his throat. Hey guys, sorry for interrupting but I just got a call from Sarge. He wants us at the district in 20 minutes. I looked at Wes and gave him one last kiss. I love you. We'll talk more about this when you get home. I love you too. I'll be back tonight. They both started walking to the door and Marcus turned around before closing the door behind him. Oh, congratulations Maddie. I'm happy for you both. I smiled and told him thank you before he closed the door and left.
Now we have to tell the family. And I have to tell chief on my next shift.. I can't be a firefighter anymore.. I decided to go ahead and go to the station now so I can talk to chief and everybody else. I went to our bedroom and slipped into skinny jeans, my boots and a sweater before heading out. Anybody back home would call me crazy for wearing a sweater in the middle of August but it's cold here! The high for today is only supposed to be 54*! I went down the stairs of our apartment and got into my truck to drive to the station.
As I pulled up I saw all the guys outside on the apron doing drills. I parked the truck and walked up the drive. Hey! There she is!! Hey guys! Is chief in his office? Yeah he should be. Everything okay? Uhm.. Yeah I'll explain after I talk to chief. Okay.
I walked inside to Chief's office and knocked on the door. Hey chief? You got a minute? Yeah of course. Come on in. How ya doin'... Jones? He smiled as he said that last part and so did I. Yeah, I'm good. I actually wanted to talk to you about something. I know that Morton is transferring over to 106, and I wanted to know if I could maybe, join Marley on ambo...? Do you have a reason for this? Uh, yea actually. We just found out this morning. I'm... Pregnant. His face lit up when I said this. Congratulations Madison. That's incredible! Morton's last shift is today so you will be able to transfer over next shift. Thank you chief. I think I'll go break the news to the rest of them. I laughed as I stood up and he came around his desk and gave me a hug. I left his office and went back outside where they were still doing drills. I went over to the bench where Marley was sitting watching the guys. Hey partner. She gave me a weird look. What're you talking about Mads? Well.. I wasn't feeling well this morning, obviously, and I found out this morning that, I, am, pregnant... She squealed, making all the guys look over at us. What the hell was that? Marx looked at us with a confused face. Then Marley piped up. I have a new partner!! Then my lieutenant from squad looked at me. Jones..? Are you moving over to ambo...? I am. I love my spot on squad but I have to have a job that'll keep me safe in the next few months. Their faces turned from confusion to smiles. Some of the guys came over to congratulate me. I smiled at them and gave them all a hug. Then Lieutenant Jacobs came over to me, talking to me about my transfer from his rig over to the ambulance. I looked down at my watch realized what time it was. Ah damn. I gotta get going. Wes will be home in about 20 minutes. I'll be back next shift! I yell as I walk towards my truck. I decided to call Wes on the way home.
Phone conversation:
M: Hey baby
W: Hey love, how'd the rest of your day go?
M: Well, the firehouse knows. I figured I'd tell chief ahead of time so I could do something safer. So, as of next shift I'm on ambo until my leave.
W: That's great. When did you want to tell the family?
M: Well I was thinking maybe we go down for the weekend next week? I don't have shift then and neither do you.
W: Yea I think that'll work. I'll call my mom and let her know they're coming and maybe they can all meet us somewhere? Maybe we can tell them over dinner?
M: That would be perfect. I'll actually call my mom now too.
W: Okay. I'll see you at home?
M: Yeah. You get off in like ten minutes don't you?
W: Yep. I'll be home in 20.
M: Alright. I love you.
W: I love you too. Both of you.

After Wes hung up I pulled into the parking spot in front of our apartment. I got out and went inside in plans of starting dinner so it would be almost done when Wes get home. In the middle of making dinner I called my mom to tell her about our plans for next weekend. She is excited and can't wait to see us. About 5 minutes later Wes walked through the door. Hey baby I'm home. In the kitchen. I continued to cook until Wes came up behind me. He moved some of my hair to the side and started kissing my neck. Hey, Love. Hey baby. Dinner's almost ready. Okay. Did you manage to call the doctor today? Yes actually I did. I turned around in his arms and leaned against the counter. They said to come in on the 11th. That is in 4 days. I don't have shift that day. I think I have shift... But I can talk to sarge and he can make it happen. I promise. He kissed my forehead and wrapped me in a hug. Here. I'll go change and call him. He'll make it work. He kissed my forehead one last time before he walked to our bedroom to get changed.
Wes's POV
I found out this morning that I'm going to be a dad. This is the best news I have ever gotten! We have our first appointment on the 11th, meaning I need to talk to Sarge about getting that day off. I call him while I'm getting ready for dinner.
W: Hey Sarge?
S: Hey, Wes, what can I do for ya?
W: Well uh, I know I have shift on the 11th, but I was wondering if I could have that day off?
S: There something you're not telling me Wes?
W: Well uh, actually yeah. Maddie's pregnant. Our first appointment is the 11th.
S: That's great! Yes of course you can the day off.
W: Well thank you Sarge. I'll see you Wednesday.
I hung up the phone, relieved. I pulled a clean shirt over my head and went back to the kitchen to help Maddie finish up and set the table.
After dinner we went to the living room to watch a movie. Maddie was curled up in my side, with her arm wrapped around my middle section. I kissed her on her forehead and wrapped my arm around her shoulder. Hey baby? Yes Love? Since we're not sure how far along we are, do you think tomorrow we can go look at baby furniture? I mean you can never start too early. She gave me a cheeky smile. I think that would work. I can clean out the spare bedroom too in the morning in case we get anything. She leaned up and kissed my cheek before she curled up into my side again.
About an hour into the movie Maddie had fallen asleep. I chuckled to myself and turned the tv off. It was getting pretty late anyway. I slowly stood up with Maddie in my arms. Instinctively, she wrapped her arms around my neck while I was carrying her to bed. I gently laid her down and went to brush my teeth before laying in bed beside her. I laid there for a few minutes just thinking. I was propped up on one arm watching Maddie sleep. I gently leaned down to her soon to be growing baby bump and kissed it. Then I whispered to my unborn baby before going to sleep. Hey little baby. I'm your daddy. You have the best mommy in the whole world. She is so beautiful and smart and talented. You're lucky. I promise you, I will try my hardest to be the best daddy ever. I love you. I kissed her stomach one more time before curling up next to her before going to sleep.
