Chapter Twenty Four

The king stopped dead as he heard his mate's voice, the beautiful sound he had thought he would never ever hear again. He looked over at where the voice had come from, and had no idea how he managed to stay standing. His William, his beautiful, perfect mate was standing there. Alive for the first time in over three hundred years. He stood there frozen, just staring, having absolutely no clue what to do. 

"Elliot? You're the king? Why would you say those awful things to them. Those were the same things those assholes who cursed us said. What happened to you?" William looked so sad, so lost as he said those words. Elliot, he couldn't even think about being the king right now, didn't know what to say. Every excuse he had ever used to justify the things he did seemed so woefully inadequate now that William was here. He had to try though, he couldn't lose his mate a second time, immortality or not he wouldn't survive it.

"You were dead! Your curse was a blessing compared to what they did to me! Forcing me to live forever without you, and I couldn't let you go! You stayed perfectly reserved, time never touched you, and every time I saw you it was like a knife in my chest! For over three centuries I had to endure that! I was so angry Will, I still am! Why should I have allowed anyone else the happiness we never got!" He was yelling and crying at the same time. His feet still wouldn't allow him to move, to rush over to William and hold him like he so desperately longed to do. He didn't even care that they were making a scene, his mate was the only one he could see.

"That isn't an excuse to make everyone suffer Elliot! Our love was forbidden and we payed the ultimate price trying to get everyone around us to see how truly beautiful it was. I even let you cast that dreadful curse that took away the choice of who to mate. Mostly because I knew it would work out for the best, but still, it didn't feel right stripping people of their right to choose. I helped you do it though, so that we could show that what we had was deeper than they thought, that the love we shared was real. Everything we did was to gain acceptance for ourselves and those like us. How could you turn your back on that so completely? How could you disrespect me, disrespect what we had, so much? I don't understand." William was in tears as well, he looked so miserable that Elliot felt like he was going to break in two. Worst of all though, he just looked incredibly disappointed, and when he looked at Elliot, it was like he was looking at a stranger.

"I can make it right! Love, I will do anything I'm sorry! Losing you, it drove me crazy, I couldn't think of anything other than how much pain I was in. I'll lift the ban on homosexual mating, I will give everyone a pardon! Just tell me what you need me to do!" Elliot's feet finally got with the program and he was able to run across the small campsite to William, but his mate didn't open his arms for him. He just continued to look at him like he was a stranger. It hurt almost as much as it had when he had been cursed, in fact it was worse, being this close yet so far away. Knowing he didn't have anyone to blame but himself.

"You are not my Elliot. My Elliot never would have done all of those awful things. He never would have hurt people the way you have. So yes, you do need to set things right, but I can't do it with you. Come back when you've found my Elliot again, and maybe we can talk about a relationship. Right now though, I can't even look at you. You are just a stranger wearing my mates face." William wiped away a tear that had found its way to his upper lip, and with trembling hands Elliot watched as his entire world turned his back on him. William disappeared into the tent he must have emerged from in the middle of his fight with Talon.

Elliot dropped to his knees in the dirt. He could feel a sharp twinge from where a twig or something was digging into his skin, but he could not bring himself to care. All he could think about was how he had to get his mate back, how he had to somehow become someone William deserved again. He didn't know how he could do it after all the damage he had caused, but he would find a way. 

"Holy shit," he heard a voice whisper behind him. Suddenly the world came into focus again, and he realized that he had just had that argument in front of almost everyone he had ever wronged in the way his mate had just described. He figured if there was any way at all to make amends, this little "pack" was as good a place to start as any. He took a deep steadying breath as he got to his feet.

"I will love you forever," he whispered to the tent where his beautiful William was currently. He then turned around, completely unprepared for the complete catastrophe he was sure was about to take place.

Hey y'all, so you guys deserve a ton of super good excuses, but the truth is I have nothing. This story sort of just lost its shine for me, and I didn't have any motivation to keep going with it. But I remembered it the other day, and I remembered how awesome all of you were when I was just starting out writing. This is the first story I ever seriously put effort into, and I need to finish it. For those of you who still have any interest whatsoever in it, and also for myself. This story deserves an ending, and I need to be able to look back and know that I finished it. It still has quite a ways to go, but I am going to do my best to stick it out. Thank you to all of my lovelies who perhaps have still stuck with this story after all this time. I don't know how often I will be able to update this, but it will almost definitely be less than two years from now. Lol. Anyways lots of love from me as always.

P.S. I may be an adult now but I am still totally in love with toothless and Optimus Prime. Yay me lol.
