40) Sacrifice

Claire-

"Never in my life have I gone up these many steps," Saito sat at the top of the stairs to take a breather. "I'm in good shape, but those are some steps."

Claire smiled. "Come on, Sunny isn't complaining; you'll let a little girl beat you?"

Sunny smiled and hugged Claire's arm. The kid is quick to attach herself to people. Claire ruffled her hair. She's a good kid. How could Lunic do this to a child, inject her with demon blood to make her soul stronger? Sunny had communicated via telepathy. She told her everything that Lunic did to bring her back. Zeus was going to return her, but Lunic took a leap of faith and screwed things up.

But Zeus knew Lunic would do all of that, so he put a little bit of his power into Sunny. Now, Sunny is like a daughter to Zeus.

After a little break, they went into the temple and discovered chaos. The gods and goddesses were free and were fighting mindless angels with dripping wings; they didn't look well, and Zeus was killing them with his trident. Those angels won't be coming back ever again.

But not all the angels are getting killed; some are getting put in cages. They are probably the ones that are getting controlled. Claire is glad they'll get help.

She looked around and spotted Skyler running towards them. Claire is surprised the archangels aren't chasing him. Then again, it's due to his mother. There was a beautiful woman following Skyler.

"How did it happen?!" Skyler glared. "How did Sapphire break the bracelet?" Skyler tugged at his hair. "Dom and Duke have Sapphire; they took off with her!"

"Son, stop, stop," the woman moved Skyler's hands away from his hair. Now he understands where Skyler gets his fiery hair and pearly eyes. Even though her eyes are green, they are still pearly. "Breathe in and out; panicking isn't helping you find Sapphire."

Skyler followed her instructions and breathed in and out. "I need to find her, Mother."

The woman smiled. "You warm my heart; I have been waiting centuries to hear you call my mother again." She kisses his forehead head.

A faint hand rested beside them. "My beautiful Beatriz, I thought I had lost you."

"Father, we can reminisce about the old days later; right now, your grandson's soulmate is in the hands of two devilish angels," Beatriz said.

Zeus let out a low gruff. "Zero, I shall castrate him." His voice booms throughout the temple.

"Father," she huffs.

Zeus waved her off. "Fine, go, we'll handle everything here." Zeus turns to Claire. "I am sorry for everything; I should've stopped Duke from marrying your mother."

Claire shook her head. "It's fine; it was all meant to happen; let's save Mount Olympus."

Zeus reaches over and strokes her face with his colossal finger. He stood and went off to help restore order.

"Skyler, think," Claire held Sunny's hand. Zeus didn't acknowledge her; then she noticed why the girl had utterly camouflaged herself. "You spent most of your time with Duke; he dragged you everywhere. Think, where could he have taken Sapphire? He must have different hideouts, right?"

Skyler eyes lit up. "I know a couple of places."

Claire smiled. "Let's go."

'I'll stay,' Sunny said. 'I want to talk to Papa Zeus.'

Claire didn't want to let Sunny go; she felt an attachment to the girl. "Okay, but you can come home with us if you'd like when this is over, of course." Sunny nodded.
