Chapter Fifty-Seven: Cute Couple

   He stayed after she left, finishing his coffee while feeling the minutes tick later into the night. He thought he missed her, but he had already come to terms with the truth, the truth that he missed what they had together.

When he finally made his way to the door, ready to return home, someone stopped him.

"I couldn't hope but notice . . . You two are a cute couple." A woman commented with a childish giggle, and something in him snapped.

    How had he fucked up so badly? Why couldn't he just love her? She deserved better than a fuck up! She deserved someone who treasured her above all . . .  He deserved shit. He shoved the door open, throwing his cup against the pavement. Approaching his car, he leaned heavily against the hood.

    His fist impacted hard, and his knuckles throbbed.

    His head hurt. Everything hurt, everything felt wrong. The goodbye had hurt. Not that he wasn't expecting that, but that woman's words . . .

    He left his car sitting by that Starbucks, heading down the street and around the corner to the building alive with music and light.
