Saturday.
He woke later than usual, yet just in time to take his lovely Juliana to brunch.
The place they went to was small, decorated beautifully with fall flowers and ivy. They sat outside despite the cold, at an iron table, their chairs screeching against the cobblestone beneath their feet as they scooted forward.
A vase of dying roses was set between them, along with the specials menu.
"Hey, isn't that coffee shop near here?" Juliana asked, in all innocence, scanning the buildings for it. Heat rushed to his cheeks, for a reason he couldn't explain.
"It's a few blocks away, but it's close."
"Do want to go there instead? I've never been."
"No!" He exclaimed quickly, warranting an amused and suspicious glance from Juliana. "I go there every morning, Jules. I want something new."
She smiled sweetly, still unconvinced. "Fine, I'll have to go on my own time, in what little of it I have."
He nearly breathed a sigh of relief, yet again, he couldn't fathom why.
He ordered an omelette and she ordered a few pancakes. They both greatly enjoyed the freshly squeezed homemade orange juice, and talked of topics ranging from their work to their dreams of the previous night. The rest of the afternoon was lazy, enjoyable.
His friend Doug, who lived a town away, invited him and a few other of their friends out to see a game. Noah eagerly accepted, he was looking forward to seeing his old college buddies again. It had been nearly a year into the new adult life, and he was curious to see how they were surviving.
He smiled to himself as he was getting ready, trying to imagine his friends with desk jobs. Especially Matt.
