Her work day was uneventful and terribly hard. Not that it ever wasn't. But she had been in overdrive nearly the entire day, working her butt off for the chance of a future promotion.

She returned home, exhausted and bored. She needed a drink.

She didn't feel like going out, so she paid a visit to Jason's apartment.

"No."

"What do you mean, no?"

"I mean, I have nothing to give you."

"You are a drunk. You have to have something." She pointed out, and he looked offended. She shrugged, "What? It's true."

He shook his head, "Not anymore. I'm trying to sober up. I even joined a group."

"You're killing me with this bullshit." She groaned, and turned to walk away.

"I'm serious." He called after her, and for some reason this caused her to pause. She turned, looking back at him over her shoulder. "I will have been sober for one week tomorrow."

"Is that supposed to be impressive?" She snapped.

"I did it for you, you know. For my . . . actions . . . last Monday." He slowed before continuing, in a smaller voice, "And it's impressive for me."

She sighed, realizing her exhaustion from work had caused her to be a bit harsh. "You know what, you're right. I'm being selfish, I'm glad you aren't a drunk anymore. Good for you."

She knew that in the way she said it, it didn't sound convincing, nor sincere, but she was too tired to care. She reentered her apartment, boozeless.

    Annoyingly boozeless.

She sighed, I guess I will have to go out.
