Xavier's POV

My wolf was irritable all day, as if he was anticipating something to happen. It was frustrating having him behave this way when I have better things to do with my day, but I finally gave in and let him out so that he could run the forest line.

I quietly sit at the back of his mind, as I watch him desperately search for something in the dark forest. Hours had passed and he was wandering further and further from our pack, which was aggravating me.

The Alpha should never be too far from his pack, especially when there's been an increase of rouges in the area lately, I remind my wolf. However, I can sense that his mind was preoccupied with something that didn't involve our pack for once.

Just as I was about to shut him out and transform to my human self. I smelt it. That smell was intoxicating. I've never smelt something so mesmerizing and enchanting in all my years of life. My wolf immediately perks up at the smell and I instantly know that there is no stopping him now. He runs at full speed towards the smell. This smell is different, it didn't smell like a delicious meal for my wolf to devour, this smell sends shivers down my spine and brings warmth that is completely foreign to me.

We finally reach the source of the smell and what we see sends my wolf on a rampage. Without another thought, my wolf lunges at the man that was attacking a woman and rips him to pieces in a matter of seconds. He then lifts his ears and listens for more prey to kill in the dark forest, but there was none. The woman on the ground whimpers and instantly passes out before she could comprehend what was going on around her.

The way my wolf approached this human and looked at her with so much admiration, the way he carefully laid by her cold bloody body and listened for her faint beating heart, the way it sadden him to see this stranger in pain; I instantly knew what it all meant.

She is our mate.

How could this happen?!

I hated all of this and all that is about to transpire. My wolf on the other hand, was at bliss with the idea of finally finding his mate. He was eager to go to the doctor's office and be near her and be there for her when she woke up. I immediately shut him out at the thought of that ridiculous idea. Unlike other people, my wolf and I rarely got along and this was definitely going to further pull us apart.

I didn't want a mate, I never did. Mates made you weak; it was just another distraction, just another thing to deal with. I am Xavier the Alpha of the Moonlit Pack, one of the most powerful and strongest packs there is. There's nothing going to stand in the way of my power, not even that pathetic human being that supposedly is my mate. I should have left her in the dark forest and let her die, but my wolf refused to do so and his anger and determination to get that human to safety overtook my control of the situation. I had no choice but to take her to our pack and get her to a doctor.

I have decided that for now I'll let her stay in this pack, until I can figure out something else. However, I refuse to let her distract me of my Alpha duties and I definitely refuse to acknowledge that she is my mate.

I could feel the anger radiating from my wolf within me. He is desperate to be near her and he wants to find out what happened to her. We found her in a dark forest fighting off a rouge in his human form. She is covered in scars and bruises that have marked her body from current and past incidents. It was obvious that she has been fighting for her life for a while now and that just fuelled my wolf's anger even more. He wanted to go back out there and kill every single rouge. He wanted to investigate where this human has been and how she was harmed. But I refused to let him to that. I didn't care about any of that. She is human and weak and she means nothing to me.
